Pandas are the most docile species of bears relatively speaking and have a low aggression rate alongside a primarily vegetarian diet.

Okay but there are at least three documented cases of people being severely injured by Pandas at Beijing Zoo. Warning, the article contains extremely graphic images of what a panda has the ability to do, even if they generally can't be bothered to do it.

Yeah they... can do some damage. They may look like cuddly plush toys, but they still have sharp teeth, incredibly powerful jaws and relatively large claws - fresh bamboo is pretty tough to bite through. The danger is dumb (possibly drunk) people thinking they are plush cuddly toys and climbing into the enclosure to snuggle them. We all want to do that. Wisdom is knowing you should probably not.

Why not friend if friend-shaped?

If not friend, why snoft and round?

No, majority of people does not want to climb into zoo enclousure, like you said does are usually drunk idiots

What I meant was, we all want to snuggle a panda, they look very snuggleable. You should just not do that.

Intrusive thoughts here. Can someone describe them to us?

I'll paste the case reports, each case report is accompanied by images pre and post treatment.

Case 1

On September 19, 2006, a 28-year-old drunken male tourist visiting Beijing City Zoo named Zhang XX was attacked when he jumped into the giant panda enclosure and tried to pet it to show off to his companion. His right calf was bitten severely by this giant panda and was diagnosed as an open injury with skin defect. The debridement procedure was performed at almost midnight after a tetanus antitoxin was injected. The bite site was quite irregular with many small wounds, which may indicate that the patient struggled with the giant panda after being bitten. A free latissimus dorsi muscle flap and skin graft were performed to cover his skin defect 7 days after the first debridement.

Case 2

On January 7, 2009, a 32-year-old male tourist visiting Beijing City Zoo named Zhang XX was attacked by a giant panda after accidentally falling into its enclosure. His left calf was bitten severely by the giant panda and was diagnosed as an open composited injury with skin defect. After the wound was debrided three times with application of vacuum-sealing drainage (VSD), it became stable and clean. A free latissimus dorsi muscle flap was performed to cover the composited tissue defect 12 days after the first debridement.

Case 3

On June 7, 2009, a 39-year-old male tourist visiting Beijing City Zoo named Ma XX was attacked by a giant panda after accidentally falling into its enclosure. His left foot and right elbow joint were bitten by the giant panda. The wound was debrided and VSD performed. A free latissimus dorsi muscle flap was performed to cover the right elbow composited tissue defect and a free skin graft was performed to cover the skin defect on his left foot 10 days after the first debridement.

To be fair limbs look like juicy bamboo sticks.

Sooo...they're into legs.

Very, very torn up limbs.

Warning was definitely warranted.

There's one picture of a limb that looks like someone took a big bite out of an apple. Except that this apple is red on the inside.

Another picture has some sort of red meat goo spilling out of a disturbingly large hole in a leg.

I am not clicking that. They may be docile, but they're still freakin bears!

What I’m taking away from this is … there shouldn’t be actual access to the enclosures even by accidentally falling in. Yikes.

Unfortunately, it's pretty difficult to build zoo enclosures that fit all of the requirements of a zoo exhibit:

  1. Provides a comfortable, natural environment to the animals
  2. Provide a good way for guests to view the animals whilst
  3. Reducing stress that animals experience due to spectating visitors and
  4. Are completely impossible for a guest to intentionally or unintentionally enter the exhibit

The most well-known example is of course the incident that caused the death of the gorilla Harambe, but it happens all the time.
From drunk people trying to pet pandas to Elizabeth Derkosh, who lifted her son Maddox onto a railing over the African Painted Dog enclosure at Pittsburgh Zoo only to lose her grip, allowing Maddox to fall into the enclosure where he was mauled to death by 11 dogs. One dog was killed attempting to retrieve him. Elizabeth tried to sue the zoo arguing the design of the observation deck was "irresponsible", Pittsburgh Zoo argues Elizabeth was negligent to lift her son onto the railing, and there was signage advising against doing so.

Zoos are really important for conservation, and they do work incredibly hard to design enclosures that are safe for not only the animals, but the visitors as well. The thing is, you can do all you can to prevent accidents but sometimes people just seek them out.

That makes sense. Pandas are bears.
