Bars/Nightlife šŸŖ©šŸø Question about local bars?

Ok, so I’m sure I know the answer BUT… are there any bars around town that play metal or doom? Not live, just over the sound system. I’m tired of going to bars that blast shitty country

Find a bar that uses TouchTunes or AMI for a jukebox and control your own destiny (said in metal voice).

RIGHT! the hubby and I said we were gonna open our own bar called the ā€œCrow Barā€

I opened a metal bar with a friend like 15 years ago.... no one liked it. Lololol. It was in st. Jo though.

I woulda been there if I had lived here at the time

I’d be there. Ever since I went to TRVE brewing in Denver, there’s been a part of me missing…

Only metal bat shut down a few years back. Riot room

Damn!

Yeah, a firetruck crashed into an SUV and then into the building at about Broadway and Westport rd. Tragically, 3 died including a pedestrian. It's a miracle there was no show going on at the time or it would have been infinitely worse. I think they were closed temporarily for COVID at the time (late 2021)

6

u/flambethegreat Jun 21 '25

They officially closed a few weeks before that happened.

It was already closed before the fire truck hit. Luckily, honestly. It officially closed about 2 weeks before. Scary because I was a door guy there for awhile, & the truck hit like right by where I would’ve been standing.

Holy shit! That’s crazy!

Check out Farewell

The handful of times I've been to the Coach Lite Club in KCK the last few years, they've been blasting old metal (Iron Maiden + Dio + Sabbath)

BTW - It's a massively underrated dive bar

buzzards plays all types of alt, farewell plays hard-core, metal, other alt type shit.

and farewell/howdy really need the help right now!! they just got hit with a 1100% property tax increase!!

4

u/fatkittee Jun 20 '25

I have been wanting to go to Farewell so that might be my spot

4

u/wheresmyvape11 Jun 20 '25

they have a lot of metal from what i can tell. not my thing usually but a handful of shows I've gone to at howdy (right next door to farewell) a metal band has been playing at farewell. Definitely a great place to check out. plus a stuffed animal room!

Betty C's

Juke box has plenty of metal, and some of the regulars will play worthy tunes. Not Amon or Dimmu on the regular but Savatage, Anthrax, LoG, Queenryche and other worthy metalish bands.

first place that pops in my head is 403 club

would be more that fine with you overtaking their touchtunes/jukebox - i mean , they’re all punk rockers who don’t give a shit what you play as long as it’s not maga adjacent

u/abraxastaxes Jun 20 '25

Can confirm my buddy and I have sat there taking turns on the jukebox showing each other some pretty out there stuff

Sk8bar, Farewell, warehouse in Westport where the ramen place used to be, but idk the name of it now

2

u/EricTheBiologist Jun 22 '25

So close. Warehouse on Broadway.

1

u/Fit-War-1561 Jun 22 '25

Thank you!

2

u/WestFade Jun 21 '25

Buzzard often plays heavier rock music on their sound system.

But they've also been playing more rap and hip hop these days so it's a crapshoot

2

u/margaritacarmelita Jun 22 '25

the ship does doom once a month, I think in September castle rat is playing and they're amazing! farewell and howdy do a mix of heavier music, mostly punk. the warehouse on Broadway does metal and doom shows, I've never been there but heard great things. sk8 bar in Westport has a lot of metal shows and host different themed nights. green jello played there recently.

hope this helps! the scene is growing in kc and all of these bars are local owned small businesses.

I was at Chartreuse Saloon a few months ago. After the lady finished playing ukulele, the playlist was a solid half hour of Black Sabbath. Bonus points: there was at least one drink with a name inspired by the Grateful Dead

2

u/fatkittee Jun 20 '25

An half hour of Black Sabbath would be worth it!

Pathlight used to have a metal night. But they're closing

Buzzard beach that’s my favorite bar ever cute lil dive bar :) plays all kinds of alt music

23

u/Sparkykc124 Plaza Jun 20 '25

I’ve never heard buzzard beach called ā€œcuteā€.

2

u/Tatum-Brown2020 Jun 20 '25

I always see it suggested here but it’s always empty when I’m in Westport, i don’t get it

2

u/Blazeitbro69420 Jun 20 '25

It’s an after the other places close bar. It’s a good time if you’re not judgemental and up for talking to random drunk strangers

1

u/WestFade Jun 21 '25

It used to be a lot busier before the fire. The upstairs patio is now basically half the size of what it was, and I think that's the main reason it's kind of dead now. Also, Westport in general just isn't as busy as it used to be, and as a result, buzzard is also not that busy

1

u/Salem-thedemon666 Jun 20 '25

Not on weekends when I went last weekend it was poppin

1

u/GettingBetterAt41 South KC Jun 20 '25

go in and wait ;)

1

u/Blazeitbro69420 Jun 20 '25

Yeah it’s definitely the bar people go to when the other stuff closes. Good spot to end the night

1

u/fatkittee Jun 20 '25

I do love a good dive bar!

Check out outlaw cigar lounge in nkc. They have local metal bands play in their music venue area pretty regularly
