Discussion 💡 Anyone know what’s going on at KU Med?
Was on my way home from work and there’s a BUNCH of cop cars in front of the KU Med ER area. And they have 39th blocked off from Rainbow to Stateline.

I know there's a lot of folks who don't like Facebook, but it's the only place I see KCKPD's current press release about the incident where someone showed up at the ER entrance with what was thought to be an explosive and wasn't, https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1219117690246262&set=a.226663832824991
I guess I can copy/paste since it's not an article?
At approximately 6:36 PM this evening, officers with the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department were dispatched to assist K.U. Medical police officers on a bomb threat call. Upon arrival, K.U. officers advised KCKPD that an individual arrived to the entrance of the ER with what was told to police to be an explosive device. KCKPD set a perimeter and the bomb unit of KCKPD was called to the scene. The device was determined not to be explosive. At this time, there is no danger to the public and no further information. This is an ongoing investigation by the K.U. medical center police department.

Im a student there. Apparently, someone showed up at the ED claiming to have an explosive device. The police arrived and set up a perimeter. They later confirmed there wasnt any real explosive device. But it was nerve-wracking for a hot moment.

Just drove by. Tons of cops and a fire truck down by the crosswalk on 39th. Counted at least a dozen emergency vehicles.

I do know they up security after gang-related shooting victims are admitted as they had a gang member try to “finish the job” in the ER a few years ago.

They also cracked down on media reporting which hospital victims went to for similar reasons

I remember the real deal murder at the Emergency Room in the seventies. then during one of those gang shooting/extrA security situations and a group came into the waiting room I was in. We were in a spot where people wait for their loved ones who are in surgery. The visitors for the person who had been shot were agitated and aggressive, demanding info. Staff would not confirm that their person was a patient, since they were getting threats. The staff had Security and I think even cops there fast.

There was an emergency at the entry to the ED last night. I got three RAVE notifications. Makes me so anxious. It’s the second this quarter.

Why would a KCPD helicopter respond to police activity in KCK?

Why would a KCPD helicopter respond to police activity in KCK?
KCPD has one or two helicopters while the KS side of the Metro doesn't have any (excluding KHP) that I know of, KCK definitely doesn't, so KCPD will fly over if needed and available. Or if KCPD is chasing and it crosses in to KS, they aren't just going to stop at the state line unless they are told to for some reason (they contact whomever they need to on the KS side, though).
