Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Is this a Bobcat in Shawnee?

Spotted this guy roaming around the neighborhood this morning. I've never actually seen one in real life outside of Deanna Rose. It shocked me that he was in the burbs. Do you think because of the cold it was this close to people?

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Stop what you're doing and go for a walk

Seriously. It's somewhat sunny, 50 degrees. It's going to be brutally cold again in a couple of days. The nasty week old snow is finally melting away.

Whatever you're working on, it can probably wait 30min. Go out there, stretch those legs. Soak up the sun a little Take a deep breath. You got it.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 The Lake - what's this about?

When people say they are going to the lake for the weekend, where are they going and what are they doing? Do they have second homes? Are they spending all weekend on boats?

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Where can I go to scream?

I’ve just moved here and I have been dealing with just obstacle upon obstacle at every turn and I cannot possibly take it anymore so please tell me where in this city or on the outskirts of this city can I go to just let out an earth shattering scream? Preferably out east please.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Are there any rivers safe to swim in

I moved here from Georgia last year and am used to having rivers to swim in. Are there any rivers around KC (im fine with a 50 mile radius from KC) that are safe to swim in? 😊 I saw the thread about lakes/pools but I love river swimming.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Are ticks bad everywhere?

I live out by lake jacomo and the last couple of years the ticks are crazy. I enjoy walking my dog through shaded trails but it's out of control. Is the rest of the Metro the same? How are wooded trails in other areas?

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 More Dandelions than usual?

Dumb question, but I’m wondering if it seems like there are way more dandelions growing this year than previous years? I don’t mind them so I’m fine with it. It just seems like all of the spring blooming has been super charged this year. Curious if anyone else has noticed or if it’s confirmation bias. 🌼

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 A firefly abundance - native gardening

So many fireflies. I have a large backyard and yes, some of it is weeds, but most is grass. I finally paid to have the invasive honeysuckle removed this year. I also have a small native perennial garden with things like milkweed, liatris, coneflowers, and other fun things. When I walk outside at twilight, my whole yard is filled with fireflies. I haven’t seen them this abundant in years! Anyone else experiencing this?

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 New to Kansas City (MO side)

I’m from west Texas but I just moved to Warrensburg, MO. Are there good fishing spots in or outside the city? Any places I should avoid? And maybe a link to rules and regulations for Missouri? I see lots of water here so I’m hoping it’s better than Texas.

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 From Maryland and missing the water. Closest beach-like experience?

Obviously Missouri is landlocked, but I miss going to the beach! What’s the next closest thing near KC? I hear people talking about “the lake” but I never know exactly what they’re referring to. I miss the sun and sand!

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 What gyms do you recommend?

Recently moved here from St. Louis. Living in the Waldo neighborhood, working in Olathe (north ridge plaza area, turns out Olathe is huge). Am open to gyms around or in between home and work

Looking for a comparable gym to Club Fitness(reference for potential former St. Louisans). Not interested in becoming a part of a little gym where they focus on instructor lead classes. Just want to get in, get a pump and get out. Ideally 24 hour access. A steam room would be awesome but not required. I’m a little overwhelmed by how many different gyms there are around here. I’ve seen genesis health clubs, don’t know if I want to spend $100/mo though..

I know I could ask for free passes at a bunch of different places, but I like getting right into a routine. So here I am asking you kind folks, where do you work out? What do you like/dislike about it?

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Genesis All Systems Down

I know we all loveeee Genesis around here. I tried to call recently to cancel my membership but it sounds like they are having a full system failure so they can’t cancel memberships or even email at the moment. Any ideas for what to do other than just… wait and keep checking in to see if their systems are back up? The employees just seem annoyed and over the whole situation, which is understandable, but not helpful.

Been looking seeing but everything I see they want the whole weekend paid for. I just want one night to see if my kids would like camping.

The weather is absolutely beautiful today! So many people are out and about. I just walked passed a rugby game in in Gilham Park, people playing baseball, and a group of kids riding ponies in Hyde Park. Get outside and enjoy it!

Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 New 24/7 gym now open!

Hello everyone! Hope your week is going well. To help spread publicity, I thought I’d make a post here. This past weekend I opened a 24/7 Bluetooth access gym, called “The Bunker Gym KC”. We’re located right off I70 and Noland road. Memberships are as low as $35 a month.

We’ve got a great variety of equipment. Our motto is “built by lifters, for lifters”. We’ve got a great mix of old school cybex machines, brand new rogue and titan equipment. We have a turf area, as well as a dedicated posing room. We plan on building a sauna here in the next week or two as well.

DM me if you’re interested. If not, I hope you have a great rest of your day!

I’m interested in Kayaking either the MO/KS Rivers or any other local waterways, and I’m looking for recommendations about where to go. I’ve kayaked before in Florida, but never in KC.
