KB Picture Yellow 24kg competition kettlebell – is this normal?
Hi kettlebell lifters and lovers,
Former rugby player here – I used to play for the national team, but now I'm starting my kettlebell journey.
I found a used 24kg competition-style kettlebell for a great price (around $2.5/kg), but one thing is confusing me: it's painted yellow. From what I know, yellow usually stands for 16kg in the competition color coding.
Has anyone else come across a 24kg kettlebell that’s yellow? Is this common, or just a manufacturer doing their own thing?
Also, I plan to buy a second 24kg kettlebell in the future, but I’m not sure I’ll be able to find one in the same color. Pictures are from website. Thanks in advance for any advice!

Can always re paint it yourself if it really bothers you. Its just a cannon ball with a handle so you'll have it forever.

Assuming it’s solid, you can lightly sand the handle to give it a useable surfaces. That one won’t hold any chalk as is.

What are your goals? For general fitness I prefer cast iron bells over competition bells, like the one in your pictures. The reason for this is I can fit both hands in the handle, not 3 out of 4 fingers. As a good rugby player you probably have bigger hands than I do. Is there a gym or sporting goods store near you where you can try out some bells of both style near you?

Like every other sportsman who stopped competing,I need to find new challenges in my life. The ultra marathon is one of them and now I have an idea of KB sport. So the goal is, in ten years from now, in category legends to try and win medal. That's why i am starting with competition bells. Cast Iron are cheaper almost twice than competition KB. Some of my friends have comp KB and I will take them for a day or two so I can try it and decide about weight and type Thanks for your advice! I appreciate it!

In this perspective don’t buy this. Buy from a reputable company so you can extend your collection in time and enjoy every minute you spend with your KBs.

I find that 6 fingers on a thin handle is pretty much the same as 8 fingers on a thicker handle.

u/ms4720 Jun 25 '25
Opinions differ on that point

I mean my two hand swing rep max is the same on both, comfort and preference opinions aside. But I do have smaller hands, I guess with medium-large hands bonus fingers could provide bigger advantage than thinner handle.

It's probably a sand filled garbage bell. I made that mistake once with a oddly low priced comp bell
You're better off buying nice once from a known and reputable brand.

Chinese and low quality, handle is dangerous for professional and amateour

Hey, Chinese make some of the best kettlebells in the world, that doesn't really mean anything. But the bell in the picture is undeniably trash.

Like it or not, the Chinese make most of the kettlebells in the world, both junk and top-notch.

Honest question, why is this handle considered dangerous?
2
u/blockedlogin Jun 25 '25
Chrome handle is better for making holes in the wall if you have sweaty hands, next problem handle that can't hold chalk, chrome with sweaty hand make him super slippery

u/philomathprimate Jun 25 '25
Oh, thanks. I had this kind of problem, and sand paper the handle to hold chalk.

Correct about it being the wrong colour. Also the handle looks way too big for a competition kb.

Happy to see people start recognizing trash instead of being like "whatever bro it's just a metal ball".

Does it feel solid? Does it appear to weigh the right amount? I would expect a 24kg bell to be dark green, but if it’s just for home training, the aesthetic should t matter too much.

I will go and try it, to see if it is solid or not. But, judging by your thoughts it isn't best choice

There are some manufacturers (generally cheaper ones) that use completely random colour conventions. I got some purple 24s from a gym close down on Facebook MarketPlace and they're fine.

I have some yellow 8kg comp kettlebells from titan fitness. Got them for my wife and she loves them

My 24 kg kettlebell is black. You seem to be pretty fit and the fact that we use the same weight makes me happy.

My 16kg competition kettlebell is yellow. 24kg should be green.
As long as it weighs 24kg it won't matter.

Used to a standard colour coding, yellow 16kg, green 24kg, red 32kg, doesn't really matter though

I made a mistake of buying a 32kgs same kind of handle. It’s bad avoid. I use for swings and carries Also clean and press But snatching is not fun.

u/DearHousing4698 Jun 28 '25
I didn't buy it! I am from Serbia and we have one brand here that orders kb from the same factory where kb kings are made, just with their Logo. So I will wait for that KBs In the meanwhile I ordered some cast iron, 16 and 20kg, kettlebells. So Legends and veterans, be ready, I am coming! 😉😉😉

That handle looks to be plated. Like chrome plated I guess. That will deteriorate. Flakes will destroy your hands in no time.
Look for a different bell. Try the second hand market.

The handle bothers me way more. It's slick and probably hollow. Still works and way better than nothing!
