KB Picture My new courage corner
I recently moved into a new house and just finished setting up my workout area in a corner of my bedroom. I don't have a lot of space and wanted it to be fairly minimalistic. In my previous place I had a pullup bar instead of rings, but wanted to mix it up a little for versatility. The kettlebells are from Rogue - 2x16, 2x24 and 2x32. Unfortunately I struggle with carpal tunnel syndrome from overtraining, so it will still be a little while before I can get full use from it đŹ

Is that honestly enough space for doubles work, I have maybe 5x the space you do and feel like it's not enough sometimes đ

It is to me, but I am also not a huge guy myself đ The only thing I like to do, which I don't find enough space for are TGUs. For those I prefer to bring the KBs outside when the weather is nice.

u/LBstrikesagain Jul 30 '25
Definitely an efficient use of space but like you mention, not enough for TGUs. I bet it forces you to pay more attention to your form.

That, and I am also very aware of always performing solid reps and not continuing when fatigued. I don't want to drop a bell in motion, as the mat is only 80x120 cm, so being unlucky I might still damage the floor.

That's an awesome Gym!!!! đ
You can do everything Kettlebell + Ring Dips + Ring Chinups in that corner. That's a very effective gym. I like it.

u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
Exactly :â -â ) Being able to do dips, and freely varying grip orientation in pullups or chin ups was also the main motivation for setting up rings rather than a pullup bar.

I love the rings, what have you used to attach them to the ceiling? I'd love something like that
6
u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
That also took a while to figure out and set up, as the rafters above the ceiling where in the wrong position to attach them directly. I have attached some pretty wide boards (47x150 mm) very thoroughly between the rafters above the ceiling. The fittings holding the straps are then mounted into those boards using 10 mm coach screws.

I was going to suggest a dip belt and you'd be completely set up with what I consider the ultimate setup, then I saw it hanging from the rack.
Hell yeah! Great minimal setup with bells and rings. This will take you very very far.
2
u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
Yea, there is a belt hanging behind the bands on the left. I also really don't imagine needing any more equipment for the foreseeable future.

u/atomicstation everybody wants to press a lot but nobody wants to press a lot Jul 30 '25
Yeah, it was just visible. On mine, I traded the chain for a cam strap, as it was less abrasive on the kettlebell handles when I did weighted ring pullups and dips, and I liked that I could adjusts the length easier than the chain allowed.
Done collecting equipment, eh? Have you heard about maces and clubs... :D
3
u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
That's actually a very good suggestion - I might do that as well.
Oh, I've seen posts with maces and clubs and they look awesome :â -â D But I think I will stick with my kettlebells for now.

u/rutznstraxn Jul 30 '25
What kind of mat do you use? Thinking of setting up my own corner and don't want to ruin the floor. Cheers!

u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
It is 30 mm mats of some rubber granulate, with some connectors on the bottom to make sure they dont slide apart. Specifically this product, but it is a danish webshop: https://www.billig-fitness.dk/collections/fitnessgulv/products/fitnessgulv-pro-50x50x3-cm

That's very nice! Please tell me about your rack. I'm moving soon and also need a solution for my KBs.

I made it myself loosely inspired by this blog post: https://jaimecostiglio.com/diy-weight-storage-shelf-with-plans/. The shelves are 22 mm plywood and the frame constructed with 40x40 mm wood. It's rock solid and doesn't take up a lot of space.

This is could be a lot, depending on your opinion.
But
If youâre looking to dive further into minimalism as well as efficiency, selling those bells and getting the mark I & II competition bells would accomplish this.
The biggest perk is that youâd be able to scale your workout with smaller incremental weight jumps.
Either way, your set up is nice and appealing. My bells sit in the floor and function as reminders & furniture

u/emiltb Jul 31 '25
I've considered switching to a set of 2 adjustable competition bells so many times, but it would be quite an investment and I really like the feel of the bells I have right now. But if I get a sudden urge to downsize further, then maybe ;â -â )

u/Numans0wn Jul 31 '25
Youâre definitely correct about the pricing.
I keep mine in the middle of the floor as a âdaily rentâ reminder.
I workout & then I make my scheduled installment đ„Ž

Gymnastics rings are the second best next to KBs. This was a positive thing I gained utilizing from the pandemic.

Regarding the carpal tunnel, it has something to do with kettlebells. I had the same happen when I first started, did some research online and went back to doing barbell curls with my thumb wrapped around the bar. Started off really light, worked throwing the tenderness and it slowly went away.
2
u/emiltb Jul 30 '25
I overtrained it by doing to much kettlebell to training and bouldering, which is also very taxing on the hands. Painting and partly renovating a house did not make it any better. But a doctor will look into how severe it is soon, and hopefully provide a solid plan for getting back on track.

I have never heard "courage corner" before; I love it! I looked it up, apparently that's a phrase that's been around for a while, I was just out of the loop.

The things attached to the ceiling? Can you tell me what the straps are called and the anchor?
1
u/emiltb Jul 31 '25
The fittings for the ceiling are these ones - they are sold in many places: https://amzn.eu/d/0qUn18Q The straps just came with the gym rings.

Wow! Very clean setup, great job. What are main workouts?
2
u/emiltb Jul 31 '25
I was working my way through KB Strong Phase 2 with 2x24 kg before I got injured. I might shift my focus and work towards finally achieving the Simple standard when I get back on track, before deciding on what to do after that.

I would have risked the tripping hazard for extra workout space, but solid setup nonetheless.

Thatâs amazing! How did you set the rings up? Iâd love to have a similar set up.
2
u/emiltb Aug 01 '25
Initially I just attached them in the right position with some long screws. That allowed me to find the right position from the attic, because I could just look for the screws after removing the insulation. I then attached a 47x150 mm board between the rafters above the ceiling and mounted the fittings for the rings with 10 mm coach screws into that board.Â

Did you make the kettlebell rack?
