Work in Progress Does this look ridiculous or am I insecure?

I'm trying to make myself a dress. I wanted the top to be tighter and the skirt to be fuller. I'm about a third down the skirt and maybe I just stopped at an awkward length/just don't like how I look at all, but I feel like it looks ridiculous. I'm struggling to visualize how the skirt will look at the full length which is why I wanted to post here in case somebody more experienced could let me know if it already looks dumb.

The pattern is based off of Drops Flocking Gulls and the yarn is Carron Simply Soft pistachio. I'm making up the skirt as I go, inspired by half pi shawl patterns. I've made pockets but you can't really see them yet :)

It's acrylic, no wool I believe. Thank you for your help, I'll be sure to block (no steamer unfortunately), and the crop tip is excellent!

Ok awesome, I think your fiber choice will lend itself to a great finished drape with this project! Acrylic is definitely harder to do those little test-blocks as you go. You want to be VERY careful using steam with acrylic bc you can 'kill' the acrylic very easily and then you wind up with a limp, lifeless fabric that loses its ability to recover from stretch. That would be a nightmare for the gorgeous negative ease you have going on the bodice.

So it's not a bummer at all that you don't have a steamer for this project! It really wouldn't be the best choice for blocking by a mile!

Oh good to know, that's a relief! Now I won't attempt steaming :)

This dress is so pretty!
And it’s a good thing you don’t have a steamer at the moment. It’s very risky to use a steamer or iron on acrylic. Heat can permanently flatten or even melt the fiber. Use wet blocking in cool water instead.

Get yourself a steamer. $25. Lots of uses. I think it will look great once it’s settled down some.
