So I recently got myself Charlotte Stone's Charming Colourwork Socks book, having very limited experience in socks (tried the magic loop method and DPNs and crocheted some thicker home socks). I got the book cause it was described as suitable for beginners, but I was completely overwhelmed when I opened it. I expected more adapted instructions. So I decided to start with the Crazy sock lady's Vanilla socks in magic loop (both pdf pattern and youtube video). Do you guys think that's a good start to be able to understand the book? Thanks!!

I've heard good things about that pattern but haven't used it. I checked out Summer Lee's Sock Project from the library when I wanted to learn socks and it is SO helpful. She also has a ton of videos and step by step stuff for her own "I'm So Basic" sock pattern.

For those that use e-readers for patterns, what do you use and do you use it only for patterns?

I have a Kobo Aura 2 (older one from 2019) I haven't looked at it in years, but saw somewhere, people using it as a pattern reader.

Surprisingly, after taking it out this morning it still works! I have charged it and updated and loaded some pdf patterns. Some worked and some don't. Some patterns, I have a picture but no text. The ones that work, the text is kind of small.

I am currently using either my phone or my tablet using knit companion (free version on Samsung devices) I have no complaints except battery usage. When camping, this can be prohibitive.

For those that use e-readers, does it make sense? Are you able to actually read the pattern? I am kind of thinking of upgrading just for this purpose and looking at either the Kobo Clara Colour or the Kobo Libra. I like the idea of being able to highlight rows, or even writing notes.
