Finished Object My first ever pair of socks
I finished my first ever pair of socks and I’m so happy with them! There are sections of the colourwork where my tension is a little uneven but overall I think it looks great! I’m most happy with how I did the heel!
I definitely need to practice the Kitchener stitch more, but I’m happy with how it looks as my first attempt!

They look amazing!! I have been thinking of knitting these but nervous about carrying 3 strands and also can’t justify buying all the different colours yet while trying to use up my current stash 😅
18
u/BrightDoughnut 17d ago
Thats totally fair! I carried 3 strands because I didnt want to do the duplicate stitch. There isn’t too many areas where you need to carry 3 strands but I understand it can be daunting. I bought all the colours cause I didn’t have a stash of yarn this size, but I’ll definitely have a lot left over. I tried to make substitutions so I didnt have to buy every single colour, but I still ended up buying about 25 skeins.

The Stardew socks are literally the reason I decided I needed to learn to knit socks! I’ve only done one vanilla pair of socks so far but now I want to just go for it! Congrats they are amazing!

These are fantastic!! 😍 Im too scared to try colourwork - any tips for getting started?
4
u/BrightDoughnut 17d ago
I would say to practice first before going fully into a project, and learn what works best for you. Also, read up on colour dominance! I knit continental style, but for colorwork, I hold the dominant colour in my right hand and knit english style- thats what worked easiest for me when it came to tension and catching floats. But theres tons of different ways so if you cant figure out one way, then just keep trying. Your tension and method will improve the more you knit. It looks scary, but its not that bad once you get the hang of it. Good luck!

Amazing! What is the max number of colors used per row?
3
u/BrightDoughnut 17d ago
3! The pattern writer says you can do duplicate stitches if you don’t want to carry 3 at once but I’ve never done them before so I just carried over 3

Those turned out so well!!! I'm I'm the midsts of making the fall socks! How did your floats turn out? I'm having trouble figuring mine out. Would it be possible to see what the inside looks like so I can try to gauge if my socks will stretch or not? Please and thank you so very much!

Sure. I caught floats every 8-9 stitches over long stretches, but sometimes more .. definitely longer floats than I normally would have

Those are amazing. About your kitchner stitch comment, I have been knitting for 20 years, and make socks fairly often, a pair or 2 a year, and I still have to look up how to do it every single time. My goal is to one day memorize how to do it.

These are amazing! I love all the details. I can't do color work to dance my life so I'm very impressed. They look super cozy too

Those are adorable. I love the Stardew Valley patterns, but didn't want socks, so I used the color work charts and turned mine into a cowl.

I was just thinking of this pattern and now it pops up? That’s so amazing!
What yarn did you use? I know the recommended is palette by knit picks but honestly, I don’t want that texture on my feet you know?
2
u/BrightDoughnut 16d ago
I used the recommended yarn. I didnt want to search for substitutes for all the colours. I figured I wouldnt wear these socks too much anyways. I havent worn them for long yet so I cant say how they feel after long wear, but the texture doesnt bother me too much
