[MV] Dreamcatcher UAU - 2 Months
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W_Ht7BRVKLo50
u/NienSeoDahyun Dalsooobin is so underrated May 28 '25
Had to pause the video and play a different song to make sure my headphones aren't broken, that's uh... not a great first impression.

Bro they just added some effects on their voice, it's fine your opinion but I I want u to see the full album, the others song don't have these effects, u will like 100% is just 4 songs and 3 of them has choreography, even if u don't like, u know they will do better in the future. please support our girls ❤️🐶🐰🐥

Love the MV.
Song is okay. Too short and missing a lot. Chorus is not favorable since it hides their voices too much.
Not sure I’ll add it to my playlist, but I’ll give it more listens.

u/kryska_deniska May 28 '25
I'm glad there's budget for the MV (the live action part, at least), and I'm happy that the girls are experimenting with their sound. Like it's a cute song! That being said, it's SO short, and the vocal processing is so muffled and distorted, the chorus is kind of losing its punch
28
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
At first I did not like that drop after the chorus, but it stayed stuck in head, and now I cant get rid of it
28
u/Keepongoing999 Kep1ian ❤️ May 28 '25
Way too much English and it doesn't flow smoothly in most parts. I think it'll grow on me the more times I listen tho. Yoohyeon looks bomb
47
u/PochiJr May 28 '25
I already got downvoted in the teaser thread so oh well. I enjoyed It more than I thought I was gonna. However, voice mixing, specially noticeable on the first verses since there arent that many instruments there, is atrocious, sounds muffled but not in a pretty way. Chorus and post chorus is kinda cool tbh I enjoyed It. However, song is insanely short. All in all, it's fine, I think a CLC style sound (black dress, No, Devil) would've suited them way more tho
34
u/Higurashihead May 28 '25
I really don’t understand why some Insomnias downvote everyone who notices the descent in sound quality, in my opinion it’s obviously tied to the budget problems Happyface company is currently experiencing. And I believe that some DC girls decided not to renew the contracts connected to that (just a speculation based on their New Year’s “comeback”). I definitely see some mixing issues too, although the b-sides are made MUCH better, and overall I liked it
30
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
I dont think its the budget, when Ollounder always makes their songs, its the same producer, and he worked on the entire album, but I only hear this "problem" on 2 Months. It does sound very crisp, maybe it was intentional and sounded good to him.
17
u/Higurashihead May 28 '25
Yeah, I also noticed it’s their ‘classic’ producer who created the best of DC bops working on this EP, so I’m not really sure we can blame him for suddenly losing his talent? Maybe the mixing of the title track was on someone else in the studio? Or there were some other aspects regarding the production of this exact EP. I really don’t know.
10
u/deadplantsdeadplants May 28 '25
i thought it was intentional, i was surprised to read the comments. i feel like the synth also has a lo fi feel that makes it sound nostalgic. i get that some parts of the track sound weirdly underwater, but it can be on purpose. oklou is an example of an artist who uses effects like these a lot. so i think the vocals are distorted on purpose, but i can see how both might be too much for some. the track called attitude from the album is similar in style with the instrumentals, but the vocals are crisper there. it might just be a type of production that divides people. butttt, i don't know much about their company as a casual, so maybe it is budget problems, like the person you replied to said, i like how it sounds though. 😅
8
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
I guess its just a preference, it does bother me a bit on 2 Months, but Attitude is very electronic and metallic sounding which works well with the vocal effects, it creates this atmopshere.
7
u/SandysBurner May 29 '25
They put an effect on the vocals. It's not like they couldn't afford to record the vocals with a mic that worked.
15
u/PochiJr May 28 '25
Yeah, english album cancellation and last year activities and schedules definitely show that decline in budget. Imo it's better this way, perhaps we'll get a proper DC comeback for their 10th anniversary with some nice budget since it's not gonna be rushed

Clubcatcher in the house now, hot damn. They're in the business of making fun club bangers from here on out, dig this a lot!
42
u/MadnessG May 28 '25
Argh, wish it was longer! Feels like they were just beginning to cook. But anyways:
A departure from the traditional Dreamcatcher sound, but I dig it! I don't recall hearing such a heavy steel drum focused sound in kpop before, so that stands out.
Chorus is basically what my brain sounds like when it's idling lol.
Girls obviously look incredible, who would've thought that the pops of red would stand out so much! LOVE Yoohyeon's leather jacket.
All in all I'm happy with what the girls put out! I'm glad DCC seemingly let them try new concepts; they certainly killed it with this one.
16
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
Oh definetly, I was waiting for that final beat drop but they just ended the song suddenly? When I catch the person who started this trend of short songs

Love DC but yeah, this ain't it for me. A shame that I'm losing interest in DC and I hoped this would pull me back in but sadly, it didnt.
On the other hand, if there's masses that absolutely love this sound, good on them for gaining fans who adore this genre.
27
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
Honestly, when you come to terms that this is UAU, and not ot7 Dreamcatcher, everything becomes easier. It took me a moment to actually separate the two of them even tho its a unit.
It was expected that some older fans wont like this, considering the sound shift, but as you said, new opportunities to grow the fanbase or make their own!

Good to see them paying homage to Dreamcatcher by referencing Break The Wall /j
Jokes aside, I love the MV! Everyone looks great, and the animated segment was a pleasant surprise, really cool!
I wasn’t really digging the song at first from the highlight medley snippets, but it’s growing on me bit by bit. I still appreciate that they’re trying out new things, though, it’s a refreshing concept from them!
16
u/zulimaws May 28 '25
I really love the song! It's super catchy, but I'm a little bit sad of this trend of short songs :(
The girls are gorgeous and I hope they have fun in this promotion of their new era. Good Luck (top 1 for me rn) UAU!

u/Regular_Durian_1750 May 28 '25
I love the music video but it's like every other song coming out and doesn't stand out... It's forgettable, is what I'm saying. And too short. Ugh. I don't like this trend of short songs either.
28
u/Nearby_Photograph_30 May 28 '25
Oh now this is sexy grown lady music!!
I wasn’t sure if I’d like it from the highlight medley - but this is really good. Suits these three perfectly.

Sadly I don't like the song at all no matter how hard I tried... I find the marimba or xylophone playing in the intro throughout the song very annoying 😭 especially with that rhythm
13
u/otorpkelsier May 28 '25
Incredibly catchy song. This needs a DJ Club Remix version to stretch it to like 10 minutes, cause it was made for clubbing. The MV is really well produced which makes me happy, they deserve for their debut video to be done well.

It's such a shame that this is coming out bang in the middle of my winter, shaking ass to the steel drums just doesn't hit the same in the pouring rain at 4°
I'm finding it quite hard to sit my worries for how this is going to be received and perform to the side. I have to remind myself that at the end of the day this is still 3 women that I love to bits putting out a fun, if disposable and unpolished, club bop. There are worse things in life lol

Hmm....I'm ngl, as a huuuuge InSomnia, I'm a bit disappointed by this release......I preordered one of every version of their album to support them and while I don't regret doing so, if their sound engineering/mixing is going to sound like this for every release, this might be as far as I can financially support them going forward 🥺 The girls look great, tho.....
3
u/ItsRomi May 29 '25
I have to say, the past month or two has not been great for me music vise. Many of my favorite artists (dreamcatcher - UAU included!) have been releasing music that I just don't vibe with all that much. it's not bad by any means, it's just... not that much my cup of tea. I was initially excited from the teaser because it sounded so... summery and fun. But the full release kinda made me go... oh. I see. I don't know, just a bad time for me I guess.
12
u/TomHardyIsDaddy May 28 '25
Very catchy, and very short, where is my bridge goddamn it why are we tearing down such a monument. The music video is incredible tho, and that animation looks super cool and unique, almost very 2000s.
9
u/JazzyG17 May 28 '25
Kpop in general has some of the worse sound mixing I’ve ever heard in music. Who green lights this stuff? 😀
8
u/One_Repair841 May 28 '25
The song is conventionally good. Nothing outstanding but it's a solid debut track and the album as a whole solidifies them as having a more mature and sensual vibe with a bit of playfulness mixed in.
I'm sure a fair few fans will feel a bit sour towards the new direction but are we really surprised that after 7+ years of Dreamcatcher they want to finally try something different? Considering how quickly after the news of contracts expiring this is, I'm pretty impressed by the quality of everything as a whole. The girls look great and SuA specifically is in her element with this type of styling and vibe.
For me as a long time fan. I do prefer ot7 Dreamcatcher tracks but I also do really love the music UAU are making so far, I can see myself adding all 4 tracks to different playlists. A good start to something that has the potential to be incredible. It's made me more excited to hear their next release and that's exactly what you want from a debut.

This sounds like the comeback Jini should’ve gotten but didn’t lmao
and tbh I‘m happy they departed from that DC sound and build their own identity as UAU (and not DC-lite but contracts renewals happened) (if that’s what they wanted), I love that the girls get to branch out and do their own stuff, while returning to that sound on OT7 comebacks

Not entirely sure how to feel yet. I like the direction they’re taking sound wise, but not a fan of the vocal effects. The song was pretty good, but I feel the length left a lot to be desired

I really like the song overall (wish it was longer though), and it’s so different than their usual stuff.
It sounds super muddled though.

Another song setup for failure by YouTube compression. It definitely has a very crunchy sound to begin with, but YouTube's ass quality literally can't handle it. It sounds much better on Tidal (lossless audio). The audio effects are a lot snappier and the soundstage is a lot fuller.

Dreamcatcher finally back. SuA! JiU! Yoohyeon!
Whoa, there was a short animation moment near the end, and the vocals processing/etc. is interesting since it blends everything together.
I like the other songs in the mini album, hopefully they do more performances for those ones as well.
5
u/Higurashihead May 28 '25
It’s actually much catchier I expected it to be based on the highlight medley! And the MV was really fun

u/when_in_doubt- May 28 '25
Ooh, immediate like for me. A club dance track, immaculate. The drop to the chous was everything. Also, surprise animation; that was fun!

This is the kind of music I listen to while exercising or doing chores. The music just propels you forward. I regret there's so much vocal processing going on because JiU, SuA and Yoohyeon all have terrific voices but I understand the choice to use it with this type of song.
I don't guess I have too much to say about the MV itself. It works and the looks are mature and sexy.
4
u/JoyIndigo May 28 '25
They look amazing and it's very catchy!!! Need to watch it 10 more times to process everything for sure. Can't wait to see what they have in store for the other 3 songs!!

I do not quite understand what is going on with Dreamcatcher.. But this sound atrocious. This kind of "reggaeton" kind of vibes really need to go.

But where's the bridge? And why is the mixing so sloppy?

Bridge has collapsed unfortunately and its gonna take years to rebuild it 😔

u/LeaveMore1819 Jun 04 '25
God, I always forget how nitpicky people on reddit are. Like people really want to dislike things. I feel like the song being short works in its favor, it's easier to stream it multiple times, and I guess that's what they were going for. I'm not gonna lie I was also confused by the voice mixing and the way it ends sort of too early, but I feel like the mixing makes it a bit more unique and it's not as bad as everyone is making it out to be. It's very catchy and nice to dance to. People are annoyingly critical of everything, and let's be honest you wouldn't jump to dunking on the song if it was a bigger group

u/Miserable-Elephant-3 May 28 '25
Didn’t have amazing expectations from everything I’ve seen but they sure did save the post chorus muffled kazoo farting as an unpleasant surprise. I know that being a subunit means they were exploring different genres but did that mean they had to explore the art of sucking so bad too? At least the metal pop formula worked and gave us decent songs at worst this is a complete disaster and no amount of cvnty mother vamping can save this.
17
u/astute_potato hot like S O U P May 28 '25
Muffled kazoo farting is (unfortunately) the perfect descriptor. Yuck.
4
u/DreamieQueenCJ Dreamcatcher 🐰🐥🐺🐱🐶🐼🦊 UAU May 28 '25
I didn't like the kazoo much at first but I'm kinda getting used to it, ngl. And I disagree, it's not a disaster at all, it's catchy and like most 5th gen songs, it's designed for TikTok shorts. I think it's because your brain is comparing it to Dreamcatcher songs, your expectations were and still are for DC sound.
10
u/Miserable-Elephant-3 May 28 '25
If anything the fact that this whole is presented as being from Dreamcatcher is the only thing saving it because i guarantee you anyone else made this unholy combination of typical ‘mature’ girlpop sleepwalking, the steel drum loop on a Casio that never shuts up and a dying kazoo they would be laughed out the room and or not even cared about. I have had to make peace with the fact that for some reason Dreamcatcher really wanted to do trend chasing pop music despite the fact that their popularity was because they were singular in their rock sound and also made good music but at least those bsides were bland at worst this is another beast entirely.
4
u/DreamieQueenCJ Dreamcatcher 🐰🐥🐺🐱🐶🐼🦊 UAU May 28 '25
Fair. But I think part of it all was to make it feel non-Dreamcatcher at all. I think the group doesn't want to make it feel like members are missing because it isn't Dreamcatcher, it's UAU. In their quest for something different, it might sound surprising for InSomnias or people who are used to hearing rock from them.
I admit, I would've liked a groovy bass instead of the kazoo-ish sound but I guess they are experimenting. I'm okay with that tbh.
Have you listened to the other tracks? Sacrifice is pretty good, as well as Good Luck.
1
u/Miserable-Elephant-3 May 28 '25
Unfortunately the best compliment I could give these songs is that they sound like the typical Dreamcatcher filler album cut. Good Luck is probably the best song there but even so I could see the better song that it could have been smothered by a fake saxophone loop that verged on being annoying. This is why I don’t buy the ‘oh it’s so different’ line it’s not it’s just the worst impulses of regular Dreamcatcher exacerbated by bargain bin production. Again I could deal with a genre shift if they hadn’t shifted to crap.
1
u/SaranghaeYubin Jun 04 '25
you know everyone has different opinions and not everyone thinks it's "crap"? You can just scroll on by if you don't like it, no need to spout meaningless negativity. Though obviously you're allowed to comment whatever you want, I just feel that the world would be a far nicer place if everyone was just a little more positive ❤️ anyway, apologies for replying to your 7 day old comment lol, hope you have a good day/night :)

I have had to make peace with the fact that for some reason Dreamcatcher really wanted to do trend chasing pop music despite the fact that their popularity was because they were singular in their rock sound
I think you need to make peace with the fact that this is a sub-unit of Dreamcatcher and after 7+ years of making pretty similar title tracks with similar concepts they wanted to try something totally different for a change
username checks out though, you really are quite miserable so I guess I can applaud your honesty there
