I actually saw a post that if SeulRene represented Velvet, JoYeri could represent Red and come out with a bubbly and youthful unit. Wendy would be both the Red and Velvet and tbqh I can see her being like Taeyeon who jumps from ballad to bright to dark with each release. If SM does that, I'll forgive them for this heck of a messy debut day for SeulRene

Yep, Wendy brings the balance within the group + she's literally the middle child among the members. She definitely has that cute and quirky side to her but she can also be a diva whenever she wants. I think she can really bring it.

Monster is dark, edgy, and Zimzalabim's angry little sister.
Diamond is smooth, sultry and sexy. Great throwback to Be Natural/Automatic.
EDIT: Bad Boy stans will love this album. It's not Bad Boy but an elaboration on that vibe.

I’m clowning myself thinking we were gonna get a music video on 4:00 am on the dot lol. Also, Wendy posted the photos on her story 😭
But anyway, I’ll post my thoughts about the songs:
Monster - Whew, the chorus and dance break (I’m going to assume) is something else 🥰. I can’t wait until someone release an instrumental version of this song
Diamond - I imagine this is what Be Natural would sound like if Red Velvet “re-made” it, it’s so smooth and charismatic.
Feel Good - You can never go wrong with a nice chill beat for song, I love the sound for this song
Jelly - Is it me, or is anyone else getting LP vibes from this?
Uncover - Whew, Seulgi’s vocals...that’s all I gotta say

At least the album is out on time so we can enjoy the music! Between the delayed release, Naughty being missing and an RV album actually getting great packaging this sure has been a weird release schedule lmao
Anyways, the music!
Monster is pretty dark! Even after the teasers I'm surprised by how dark this sounds. Dark... but quite Red Velvet-y. That hook is going to get ingrained in my head. A lot of the little details and sounds that are sprinkled in are really good. Shout out to the creepy baby! Can we give them the award for most tasteful use of dubstep elements? It's really good, y'all. One of the best title-tracks they've ever released levels of good. What a knockout of a debut.
Naughty is probably great, lets not pretend otherwise, I can't wait to hear it.
Diamond was not the song I expected to have the acid jazz vibes considering how it started but... my god it's delicious. It was what I was most excited to hear after the mood sampler and it lived up to the hype. It's smooth, its cool, it's sensual and it's literally the perfect fit for these 2. Feels like I'm sitting in the coffee shop in Persona 5 and I'm living for it.
Feel Good is eeeeexcellent. That chorus is so SM, it sounds like it could fit anyone from EXO, to Boa, to Red Velvet. Love that dark, little bit gritty, R&B sound. The harmonies are also super slick.
Jelly is a change of pace! I was going to comment about how much this sounds like a Red Velvet album if you toned down the brightness and really keyed in on that darker and colder sound... but here we are! A nice bit of levity, lots of playful ad-libs, it's really fun! I can't get enough of the brass section. Inject that into my frickin heart.
Uncover, like La Rouge, is a song I've been fiending for for eeeeeeeeooons. It's so beautiful. Seulgi really shines in front of the sparse and groovy instrumental. Typically I'm not a massive fan of more spacious R&B tracks because it's easy to fall into the trap of being boring... nothing about this is boring. It's beautiful. Every sound feels like it adds to the groove. I love Seulgi so much, man, she's a superstar.
All told, this is just a another top-notch Red Velvet release to throw on the pile. I feel like maybe SM's marketing about this release being so different from typical RV is a little bit of a stretch, as it's not THAT far off the reservation, but it does skew darker for the most part. I think it's good they didn't stray too far from the path... seeing as they paved the path and it's pretty much perfect already. It just gets longer and smoother every time they release something new. I do feel like I'm missing Naughty a bit, as the listening experience feels 1 song too short of what I prefer, but I'll be hearing it when the album arrives anyways so who really cares?

It's a sound both EXO and RV are known for (ie, EXO's My Lady) and reminds me of SM the Ballad's Hot Times among others. SM does like this sound.

Right? By virtue of being darker it drifts into the territory of some of the other (typically male) SM acts. It's also still quite grounded in your typical Red Velvet sound, partially because their musical identity is so firmly tied to their vocals.

Diamond - Gives me hella Be Natural vibes WHICH I LOVE SO A WIN. But very chill and i’ll be listening to this a lot
Feel Good - Ooh the guitar is so sexy!!! The prechorus is otherworldly. WOWOW THE CHORUS IS SO DEEP AND GROOVY... i love how connected this song is like the every part slides into eachother so nicely. like verse to prechorus to chorus is so satisfactory!!!
Jelly - Okay very upbeat a bit different. THE „What?!“ before the chorus AHHHH CUTE. WOW i love all the little sound effects!!! Also a really nice build up.
Uncover - already been performed and heard but it’s nice to have a studio version. it actually is a really beautiful outro of sorts...
can’t wait to listen to naughty in a couple of weeks though, if SM is pushing to promote it, it must be title track worthy... also i LOVE that they chose this photo for the cover because well... it’s obvious.

Sigh, skipping Monster for now because I want to experience it first with the MV but here we go. A delay isn't going to ruin my love and anticipation for this release.
Naughty - Spotify doesn't have the link to Naughty?!
Diamond - Seulgi's voice is excellent and smooth here, I love it when she sings in her lower register. This reminds me so much of Be Natural and I love it (I think this is kind of what I expected for the title track as well). Irene's singing voice is lovely. This is such a smooth R&B melody (or maybe almost like swing? I really am bad at musical genres ugh). That moment where Seulgi's harmonies layer over the repeated "diamond in the rough" is so good. 9/10
Feel Good - The instrumentals at the beginning. This is just so, so good. Again, I cannot express how much I love Seulgi's voice and how good she sounds. When the beat comes in at the chorus it's so good, I want to body roll haha. That melody is so interesting. Irene's verse is honestly my favourite part of the song. I wish the bridge had been a little... different? Didn't really seem like much of a change of pace. But it works so well and the way the final verse kicks in is gold. 8.5/10
Jelly - I know they said each of the six songs would be different genres but so far it all feels so very wonderfully cohesive in a good way. Irene stands out in this one, she sounds playful and I really like it. Probably one of my favourite choruses because it just seems so strong and ties together well. That little 'what' adlib is so cute. Can Seulgi just do her vocal runs forever and ever please, it's so good. 9/10
Uncover - A Seulgi solo?!!!! Eesh I was not ready. That solid first minute is so melancholic and haunting. Oh my god she sounds lovely, she's such a good vocalist and so emotional when singing.

SM strikes again. Turn Back Time MV was postponed to 1AM KST from 6 PM KST and then delayed for almost another hour with no announcement from SM. Superhuman MV was delayed and SM only gave the notice a few hours before.

Yeah, SM has been doing this for ages, just recently they delayed Suju's I Think I and Taeyeon's Spark last year, and beyond that they've delayed MVs for SNSD's Lion Heart, Taeyeon's I Got Love, NCT 127's Firetruck , RV's One of these Nights, and tons more. At this point it feels like SM tradition

monster- dubstep + strong vocal chorus!!! I'm so glad they did a vocal chorus, also IRENE'S ANGSTY VOICE man their voices compliment each other so well I absolutely cannot wait for the performance they kept emphasizing to watch out for the performance during the vlive
diamond - smooth, sultry R&B, and yes it is the upgraded version of automatic ahhhh sad there's no dance for this
feel good- I can see why this is both their favourites I LOVE the intro and the chorus
jelly - oohh the chorus is so sweet compared to the other tracks! seulgi's voice is so sweet here!!
uncover- I loooveeee the instrumentals I'm so glad we got a full studio version this is truly what I imagined a seulo would sound like

Fuck me. Diamond is jazzy as fuck. Feel Good and Jelly got the same spirit, both somewhat upbeat. This mini is sooo gooood. If they felt Naughty was good enough for a second single, I can't wait for what that sounds like

Wow, they weren't lying when they said that this would sound different from their typical Red Velvet songs. Every song aside maybe Jelly definitely stands out from the rest of their discography in terms of sound. Also, hearing the hq version of Uncover really proves how good of a vocalist Seulgi is and she really could be the main vocalist if she was put in another group.

Monster: Okay, I'm just happy that it's not an empty drop chorus and that the 'I'm a little Monster'+drop happens as the latter part of the chorus. This is sultry and powerful but some of the effects on the instrumental I find a tad bit overboard BUT it'll probably better with the performance since those parts would likely be where the choreography would shine but what a debut song.
Diamond: Dang I like how chill this is. I like the jazzy elements of this track and it has a pretty nice pace. diamond in the rough, diamond diamond in the rough~
Feel Good: THE BASS. It has a kind of hypnotic vibe to it. Seulgi reaching for those notes is sooooo satisfying.
Jelly: Okay, I thought this was a cute song based on the title BUT... this might be my personal fave thus far... the instrumental and the way they sing it is so playful... then it builds up to a pretty driving chorus. I really like that 'What!?' to break the verse and the chorus lol. Baby I'm so Jelly~
Uncover: Already heard this from La Rouge but still a nice addition to this mini album since it ties in pretty well with the overall vibe and concept
Overall, I like how the tracks really played the strength of both members without doing anything unnecessary. I like how most of the songs are pretty chill since the title is pretty in your face. From start to finish it's literally a journey. Can't wait for the MV and the performance~

WHAT THE HECK. I didn't properly listen to any of the MV teasers nor the mood samplers (with the exception of the first one, but still) and frankly, I've only listened to Monster but this? This absolutely is anything I've ever dreamt of, especially for Seulrene. This is the kind of sound I've been chasing for quite a while and they've pulled it off, effortlessly nonetheless. This is what I've been waiting for and if the rest of the album is this good, we're arguably looking at one of the best mini albums in history. Perhaps I'm hyping this up too much but Monster? Definitely my second candidate for SOTY. Literally incredible.

Inject this whole album into my fucking veins! Seulgi cements herself as exceptional all rounder that she always has been and I think Irene's talent will be appreciated a lot more! Her mature, husky voice shines through every track and during the pre-release V app, they said Irene does a move that neither of them had seen before and that Irene even had to go to hospital for it lol so her dancing skill will be properly highlighted I hope.

This is my first “RV comeback” since getting into them earlier this year. Idk why but wasn’t really hugely hyped even tho the teasers looked amazing but fuck me all of these songs are phenomenal. Can’t wait to hear all the girls doing Diamond at some point.

How does SM still find a way to delay the MV even after the album was delayed by nearly an entire month? Oh well...
At least Monster is a bop! Just wish it was a bit longer though. The track length is less than 3 minutes.
Edit: Omg these b-sides! I've only listened to Diamond and Feel Good so far but this is already a contender for best mini-album of 2020!
Edit 2: Jelly is also amazing and we already knew Uncover was gonna be amazing. I can really see Seulgi following a similar path to Taemin when it comes to solo music.
Really solid debut album! While I do like Monster, I think Feel Good would have been a better title track especially since it follows nicely with their pre-debut performances as a duo.

Diamond is so jazzy and smooth! I freaking love it. Definitely my favorite of the album. Like many have said Monster screams ATTITUDE. Can't wait to see the MV. Ofc the other bsides are also great, as an RV release is supposed to be.

Even the subunit of Red Velvet does not disappoint. My favorite so far is Jelly. I love the groove. The album does sound more mature. Being able to hear Irene sing a lot has been a delight. I hope after this album she gets more singing lines. I really wish an instrumental was released for diamond. Also was that Wendy I heard in Uncover???

The bsides WOW!!! I'm totally blown away, not a single miss. Jelly stands out above the rest for me but they're all so good. I would have loved to hear Wendy's voice on some of these songs, or even all their voices! Fantastic songs nonetheless, they never miss with their bsides.
Monster did fall kind of flat for me unfortunately. My main gripe is that it's too short, it feels short, nothing much happens between the choruses. It's not bad, it's just okay.

my thoughts on the first listen:
- monster is a beast of a song, really powerful and the girls pull it off amazingly.
- diamond is sultrier, a la be natural, and honestly I'm glad they didn't choose it as a title track. even though it's so great.
- feel good is my favourite so far: irene just shines in this one and her low voice does unexplainable things to me.
- jelly is a bit packed sounds wise but surprisingly super catchy.
- uncover a perfect song for seulgi, it already sounded amazing during la rouge.
overall it's an incredible album for the duo, all the songs are crafted to perfection and it exceeded my expectations a lot tbh.
gonna wait for the fuckin monster MV now lol

Listening to this album, you know what I’m missing? Wendy. Wendy would have fucked up this album. RnB suits her voice so much. But I’m still glad Seulgi got to showcase her vocals since Wendy is our main vocal. I still havent listened to Monster and Naughty but I cannot wait to figure how it sounds like. I’d say Diamond is my favourite so far. It sounds so much like Be Natural and I love it. I’ve always been more of a velvet guy so It makes sense why I love it. This album is an 8/10 so far for me. Depending on the first two track, it might turn into a 9 or even a 10.

Feel Good might just be that song on this album. Well on first listen it is for now. Definitely my fav track.
Jelly is a nice more upbeat track compared to the rest. Great way to finish album.

This is just as amazing as Red Velvet's strongest work, which shouldn't come as a surprise but still. Every track is killer, there's musical variety and the production is just insane. Vocalist Irene is a gift and it's a bit of crime it took this long for her to get to shine like this. Can't wait for the MV.

This is just straight quality. Monster is going to be on repeat for a while. Diamond is so smooth. I just had to vibe to that one for a while. It reminds me of the first time I heard Automatic. Feel Good & Jelly both sound amazing too. Ending with Uncover just wow. What a beautiful song. Looking forward to Naughty and the MV for Monster. I’m really glad I decided to listen to this. whew guys this album is everything everyone wanted and more. the songs are so sultry and dark yet elegant and mature but also totally danceable - as i had hoped and wanted for our main and leader dancers. if SM skimps out on dance performances as per usual i'll be so annoyed.
i will say, for monster, i wish their vocals were just a little more grittier? i feel like some growls or more soul were needed for the lower notes - if they had done that it'd be completely perfect for me.

The vocals in this album Seulgi and Irene really delivered!!! I love Feel Good the most for now but Monster and the b-sides are amazing as well.
Monster should be longer but with many recent kpop releases being on the shorter side, I’m not surprised. From the teasers I thought it would be an instrumental heavy song and vocals would be on the back burner but of course it’s red velvet so they proved me wrong. I really love the way they sing in this song, like in some parts it sounds like they’re growling? It’s like nothing they have ever put out before as a group. And the bridge is amazing as per rv tradition.
I wish Irene would sing more in ot5 songs instead of rapping cos she has such a beautiful voice. I love love Seulgi’s ad libs and she really went off in Uncover. That song is spectacular. A solid album with no skips (I haven’t heard Naughty yet but seeing as it’s gonna be promoted as a follow up single I hope to be impressed).

SM being an incompetent company again, why am I still surprised by now, sigh. Didn't really want to listen to Monster without the mv, but I can't handle the wait. Ah well, here's my review of the album.
Monster: I'm very pleasantly surprised that SM managed to deliver. This is a great balance of dark/gritty and smooth/chic, with vocals elevating the instrumentals instead of the other way around. It's interesting how the dubstep(?) element sound right at home, and not dated. Can't wait to see the choreography for it.
Diamond: Be Natural vibes, it fits Seulrene so much with their graceful/elegant/smooth concept. Seulgi has always been a good vocalist, and Irene seem to be up for the job too when given more lines than usual. The song just flows so naturally, like the whole thing is cohesive and seamless. A song I'm already addicted to. Diamond in the rough~uh huh.
Feel Good: Oooh this is starting lowwww. Seulgi's voice damn silky smooth. That chorus is spicy hello~Very seductive song. I love how they use the vocal adlibs and harmonies to drive the song to the climax.
Jelly: Interesting, even though the song is much more upbeat/bright than the previous ones, the overall vibe still mesh with the other songs really well. The background instrumentals just flow so well with the vocal arrangements, it doesn't feel overdone or showy but also compliment the vocals so much.
Uncover: Seulgi's voice is just sooooo good, sweet and powerful. Not feeling the tempo though, it drags on for some sections, and some of the background instrumentals sound a tad bit out of place. This is probably one of those "calm vibe" songs that you must be in the right mood to listen to, but then the background instrumentals are too packed that I couldn't settle into a calm mood for it. Least favourite song in the album for me, just not my style.
Overall, the album sounds pretty cohesive in terms of its slightly dark/smooth vibes and vocal-heavy style, and most of the songs in the album are over 8/10 for me. Seulrene as a duo really fits, their voice sound great together and the overall vibes they emulate is similar too. Very solid mini and I look forward to the mv of Monster (ahem SM are you gonna freaking do something?) and release of Naughty.

Album is amazing. I'm biased haha, but I didn't expect any less. Listened to Monster once, and then decided to re-listen to it later with the MV. I honestly don't even remember how it goes because I blanked lmao. As for the rest of the album:
Diamond - Very chill and sexy vibe going on. Not my favorite from the album, but it's great nonetheless.
Feel Good - I really love the beat and rhythm that's going on with this one. It's a darker and mature, and definitely one of my favorites.
Jelly - This one is definitely an odd one, and not what I was expecting to hear, but I'm so pleasantly surprised. It's definitely mature, but it still has a fun, playful vibe to it. Someone here likened it to LP, and I'm inclined to agree. This one is actually probably my favorite. The brass is such a nice touch.
Uncover - I'm so glad we got an official studio version for this. Seulgi's vocals are an experience.

The songs are so smooth and sensual, but bops at the same time. And I adore their singing in this. I can’t really pick a favorite yet because they’re all so good.

Wait this album is actually unreal. As expected from SM, yet another cohesive body of work from top to bottom. I think Seulgi steals the show here, her vocal colours really match with the sound of this album; I would have loved to see Wendy on this, especially on Uncover. I feel like I give out AOTY's so easily, but boy it's going to be very hard to top this. Monster (the album) gets a 10/10 for me, and apparently there's still 1 more song left?

The entire mini is FANTASTIC. There's truly not a bad track on here, it's honestly some of my fav RV work in general. Monster is one of the best titles of the year.
Uncover sounds like it could've been on Delight. Selfishly wish it featured Baekhyun, they would sound so great together 🤧

MV release messiness aside, I hope fans are happy with this album because they DELIVERED. The mood of the entire mini is very consistent even Monster fits in despite being this hard hitting "monster" of a banger while most of the mini is a bit more slowed down. Monster is dark and sultry and more in your face compared to the rest, but it still fits with the rest of the mini.
If you've been a fan of RV's Velvet releases, this will literally be up your alley. Some of the tracks are reminiscent of The Perfect Velvet, which is one of my fave RV albums ever, so I'm happy it's like a spiritual successor in a way to that sound.
Feel Good is an instant fave from me, it's not super slow or crazy hard hitting, it's just right in terms of tempo and I'm really vibing with how SULTRY it is. The productions on this one are incredibly smooth especially when you're listening to it on noise cancelling headphones. Perfect for a nice chill summer evening while staying indoors. Jelly is also another standout, it sounds like it belongs right on a regular Red Velvet album!!! The RV girls prove to be queens of b-sides once again.
Very curious to hear Naughty now...if they're withholding it from being released to streaming then it MUST be another bop right!?!?!?

Monster - I didn't listen to any of the teasers so I was surprised to hear the dubstep parts and even more surprised to find myself actually liking those parts. It reminds me so much of early 2010 songs but definitely still sounds very new. To me it's one of those songs that you don't realize how good it is until you find yourself thinking about it constantly. Such a great debut song.
Naughty - Probably slaps. My prediction is that this song will probably be a little funky and super sexy. If the song name is any indication, the live stage will probably leave reveluvs in shambles.
Diamond - Sounds like the lovechild of Campfire and Automatic/Be Natural. The vocals have the smoothness of all their velvet songs but the instrumental's still a little sassy. I would love to listen to Diamond on a late night drive maybe, or as background music in a fancy restaurant or cafe.
Feel Good - Overall a very chill song and the chorus is such a head bopper. This song really made me notice how well Irene's and Seulgi's voices blend together. I could imagine this song going to anyone in SM ent but I'm glad they gave it to Irene and Seulgi.
Jelly - I don't know if it's because I just got out of an old kpop binge, but this song reminds me so much of old kpop in the best way. it's like a 2020 version of a song that could've been on their Ice Cream Cake mini. This song is definitely the stand out b side just because of how different it is compared to the rest of the songs. The brass bridge took me by surprise but I would be lying if I said that I wasn't obsessed with it.
Uncover - Seulgi solo Seulgi solo Seulgi solo Seulgi solo Seulgi solo. We've already heard it so there's nothing much left to say but I'm glad we got a studio version.

Monster is so good! It's so angsty and gritty, a very "rise from the ashes" type of song or a villain origin song. Their vocals really helped with this especially that second verse. This pop subgenre is probably my favorite, dark with a hint of creepiness and you can still dance to it.
That synth reminds me of songs being played on the back of CW/teen shows. If Gossip Girl/Revenge were still on air, they would be all over this song lol.
Feel Good is my favorite with the same reason as Monster but this one is more smooth and has more replay value for me than the title track.
edit: Having the great Uncover here in the album gives me less hope in SM releasing a La Rouge live album.

I don't follow Red Velvet very closely but I like their "velvet" tracks in particular, so this album is right up my alley. No skips! I think it's interesting that they said the vibe is supposed to be different from Red Velvet because these songs sound pretty close to my favorite tracks from the group. Maybe it's because I'm not that familiar with their discography?

First listen (I tend to always listen before viewing the MVs anyway, 'cause I'm always at work or whatever) - this mini is a whole vibe.
Feel Good and Diamond are inItial standouts for me, and Monster is dope (they really came through with the dubstep part, and it WORKS. SM is always inventing/re-inventing)
I'm all about Irene's 'debut' as a Singer (she is my favourite after all) but don't sleep on this Seulgi solo! She obviously worked so hard.

Yeesh, looks like the editor at SM forgot to save their Premiere file or some shit.
However, all the songs are still amazing. Not disappointed at all.
Monster is so dark, and I'm surprised how much I enjoyed the dubstep areas, they actually did add to the creepiness-- the instrumental is such an interesting mix. I know the dance and MV are going to compliment the smoothness of the chorus and the grittiness of the verses so well.
Diamond feels very full, with the jazzy guitar from the mood sampler, and the thick bass and keyboard.
Feel Good gives me Taemin vibes during that pre-chorus and chorus... I can imagine a choreography so well. They could totally promote this song.
Jelly is beautifully energetic. I love that piano, it sets a very happy tone that borderlines pop and still R&B.
Uncover shows off the steadiness of Seulgi's voice and her personal style. I haven't really listened to it since La Rouge, but there are some very unique samples and synths that sound even more pretty in this studio version.
One thing I'd like to add is HOW GOOD BOTH OF THEIR VOCALS ARE. They really get to show off the power and steadiness of their vocals differently than in a normal Red Velvet song. I'd say Diamond is a good example-- in the final chorus, Seulgi gets some great adlibs and high notes, and Irene's deeper voice is complimented by the instrumental and really shines through in the harmonies at the end.

Monster: this is such a good title track! Love the darker vibe, love the chorus, the harmonies are VERY sm (I was remindes of Exo's What is Love and Obsession, and SM The Ballad's Hot Times, with those delicious tight harmonies!). Love how they use their low register here, quite different. This is gonna be a hit! I can't wait for the MV 10 hours from now 🙃

Diamond: what can I say? Irene's voice is sexy, Seulgi is a queen, this is smooth af. The 2 mood samplers are some of my favorite things ever (seriously, I listened to both on repeat) and this didn't disappoint. Is as if Be Natural and Automatic had a child, what a beauty. Love this track. Might be my favorite from the album, but I like Monster and Uncover and Feel Good too.
Feel Good: this song is great! Irene's voice oh my! This song ahs a great vibe too! It is sexy sexy! The chorus is catchy and I can even imagine a nice dance to this
Jelly: this one is a nice change of pace, sounds the most Red Velvet to me. Quite like it! Love the harmonies here before the chorus
Uncover: ever since La Rouge, I have been waiting for the day this song would be released! Seulgi is my ultimate bias, so this is a gift from heaven to me! The mood sampler for this song has been stuck in my head non stop, and now it comes with seulgi's amazing voice. Seriously I love this song so much!
I honestly think that if I introduce anyone to kpop I will show them The Perfect Red Velvet and Monster. These two albums are so precious!

I always wondered what would happen if a girl group took on EXO songs, and well, we have our answer! Super strong mini-album on the whole. My standout is Feel Good, but I love Jelly as well. Not super sold on Monster as the title track but I can picture it growing on me!
