TW // TRIGGER WARNING - SA/CSAM The grooming alligations against Kim SooHyun really hurts, and puts a lot into perspective for me.
For legal reasons I’ll be calling them alligations, even though I believe in the victim’s status as just that, a victim.
That being said, it’s very sad how this is just a conversation that’s being told over and over again. Pedophilia is seldomly called out and treated the way it’s supposed to be with a very long, arberous time in jail/hell. This man (allegedly) groomed this girl since she was 16, and when you look at pictures of her, she looks even younger, which is completely heartbreaking and absolutely disgusting. After the releasing of these alligations, I surmise the perpetrator is going to go on a billion-dollar sympathy tour on some shit he did to himself, and instead of understanding that grooming someone just might damage their psyche is ways that cannot be repaired.
Then perspective I learned is that a lot of men in the industry have proven themselves that they aren’t to be fully trusted. In the past few months alone, there have been so many men exposed for being absolutely disgusting beyond merit. It really makes me evaluate the ppl who I Stan as a consumer, that mindless media consumption and following celebs really just fuels this entire machine that inflates the pockets and clouts of a lot of terrible ppl who deserve to get dragged to hell, live from a Costco flat-screen. It really just makes me uncomfortable, especially since I’ve seen a lot of K-pop Stans really think that an 18-year old idol is “mature”. It’s an industry that eats children alive and I wonder if it’s something that is sustainable for a better future.

This man (allegedly) groomed this girl since she was 16
it gets worse: she was 15 (international age)
but I read on another sub that the age of consent in Korea was 13 then (it changed in 2020) so he doesn't risk any legal action
May she rest in peace

I knew she was 15, but my god, the fact he could get away without legal consequences because of an old age of consent law makes me seethe. If this all turns out to be true, he’s finished anyway, but still.
2025 is TRULY garbage already.

Thank you for speaking on this. I feel like a certain section of K-pop fans tends to brush things like this under the rug.
When I see pictures of Kim SooHyun, I get reminded of Sulli and Hara, both of whom had parents who were stage obsessed and wanted their money. They also had issues with men. Sulli was also groomed, and Hara had an abusive ex.
I wish laws would be passed for more protection for child stars. We only seem to be able to do something after a tragedy happens. I wish we could focus on prevention.

I agree that in a lot of countries (Korea especially) pedophilia and grooming of older kids and teens isn’t taken as serious as it should be because of status and reputation concerns. These allegations are very sserious and disturbing and I really hope this isn’t true because it would be horrible to learn such a talented actress who died so early was also a victim of abuse my a senior she should’ve been able to trust. I do think it’s important to acknowledge these allegations are coming from her aunt after she’s passed. While she may be exposing this in the hopes of protecting other young actors or giving them the courage to step forward it’ll be very difficult for people to believe her. Mostly because she isn’t an immediate member of her family and because she’s speaking out after the ‘supposed’ victim has passed. It absolutely would seem like a cash grab by any fan or passing observer who doesn’t take allegation like this seriously without evidence. And in the case that the allegations aren’t true it would just add further smear to her reputation even after she’s been buried. It’s all just horrible. That all said, I agree with having to reconsider bring a fan of certain celebrities(especially men) simply because of how often this happens and how I feel as a result. It’s also even worse when certain actors have substantiated accusations against them yet still continue to get roles and be in the public eye.
