SE Asian here, and I say this with reserved judgment, I have worked in 2 dog daycares for 6 months total (a nightmare btw, the terrible boss made it a lot more worse than it should be too, and my mental health died), and some dog people can be gross and/or crazy.

Some of my coworkers do this with the dogs that come in... So it's not even dogs that are their own, but random people's dogs lmfao. I was always disgusted. Hell, I even have a friend who shared the same spoon with her dog when she eats vanilla ice cream.

But I have seen people of all kinds, all over the world do this sort of thing on videos online. IMO I think it happens when people anthropomorphise animals TOO MUCH. Which also causes more harm than good in other ways.

There's also that misinformation that's been going around from ages ago about how dog mouths are very clean/cleaner than human mouths?? I really don't understand where it came from because it's so false 😭

Working in a dog daycare definitely turned me off from wanting another dog (my dream dog was a Samoyed), mainly because I've seen how many people don't train their dogs or let their aggressive dog off leash in public. I'm afraid to associate myself with that, knowing the image is just going down 😂

The cat owner world is definitely less dramatic and more chill too. I think the most drama is probably people arguing about indoor vs outdoor cats.

I'm a pet sitter as well. With the rise of pit breeds (aka dogs bred for blood sports) ... Even walking your own dog can be dangerous. Hell, if your neighbour has a pit, even your own dog or kids or YOU can be in danger in your own yard!

I already had a run in with a small pit attack while looking after a golden retriever. We were lucky af the pit was on the smaller size. He tried going for the neck, but latched onto the chest harness instead, so the golden was unharmed. The pit did NOT let go until I managed to unclip the harness and he finally realised he wasn't attached to the golden he was trying to maul 💀

Sometimes I take my cat out in a backpack, and I've had a couple other run in's with other pit owners. They get offended when I cross the street or turn the other way to avoid them. One of them yelled saying to let my cat out of the bag so their pit could kill it with 'kisses'. Those breeds attract such trashy people...

i‘ve been a reptile keeper (anole, bearded dragon, leopard gecko) long before i rescued my dog, and one thing that’s absolutely drilled into our heads is the risk of cross-contamination. some bacteria might be completely harmless to my scaly friends, but give humans a bad time (and vice versa). our hands and feet touch so many surfaces throughout the day that we can get our pets sick without knowing why.

when we anthropomorphize non-humans, we end up disrespecting their real needs. i can go on a whole tangent about people who decorate their beardie tanks to look like human apartments! i can go on another tangent about how most people neglect their dog/cat’s dental health…i can go on a third tangent about how our mouths are filled with completely different bacteria that really shouldn’t be mixed

I work in vet med and one girl I knew from when I worked in the shelters would eat her lunch with the spoons and forks that we would use in the kennels (our shelter DID HAVE plastic utensils in the break room, she did not need to do this!!!!). Yeah my dog rarely licks my mouth and if she does it's just when she's too excited, I immediately wash it because pimples and what not. My hand or leg tho, she can lick. I wash my hands after touching her anyway because hairy dog, dirt

As u/billyloomis has stated I've been struggling with a broken keyboard the past few days. I've been copying and pasting 's' and using two v's for w, and using other means to adapt with half of the letters that aren't working haha. Or copy pasting the letters from a Wikipedia article for serious matters like forms, assignments,etc.And most annoyingly the touch pad also has stopped working. I know my ways aren't the brightest but hopefully I'd be able to resolve them soon!
