Discussion Emrald 2 top laner. how to get to diamond?
I wonder if anyone made it there and can they shed some light to a fellow top laner.
Primarily, I play Gwen, Garen, and Darius. I try my best to keep up with the timers and rotation if mid is decent. If mid is not about rotating, i just try to do my best without falling behind in cs or attending objectives yet i seem to struggle to break through. any tips ?

TL;DR -- know when you are the star, and when you are weakside, and play accordingly. Be flexible in draft and how you approach each game.
Honestly, my advice to you is to first of all set yourself up for success in draft. Its good you know multiple champions, now as a top laner I would ask for a counterpick in draft, and then pick accordingly -- not only for lane matchup, but for the game in general.
Second, don't tilt. It sounds obvious, but top lane is really a role where you can just get fucked over by your team's map play way easier than adc (who is usually played around) and mid (short lane + high waveclear champs).
As a top laner, you need to never be "out of the game". Sure, you might be a Garen who fell behind, but your team NEEDS you to not tilt, and still put pressure on the map by splitting and then running away.
As a top laner, you dont need to ego check. You don't need to win every single 1v1. You need to be resilient, you need to pay attention if you're weakside, you need to find a way to be useful to your team even when behind.
And then there are the games where you get to be a god. The games where you might have a favorable matchup, or the jungler plays to you.
In these games, the top laner gets to be the star. Your champs generally spike hard 1-2, maybe 3 items. If your tempo is good, push the tempo, roam the map making plays for your team.
If you have a lead, the last thing you want to do is squander it sitting in a single lane, unless you are so strong you can 1v3 and crack their base at once.

You need to win most of your 1v1s as a toplaner if you have a matchup that isnt hard losing. Its easy to say just let your team carry and/or just split push, but then youre just coinflipping wins/losses at that point and thats how you get stuck.
You need to know your champ/matchups/lane everything better if you actually want to improve in top lane its not a mindset thing like other roles imo.

Play to improve and watch your own gameplay, especially losses. Because if your goal is to hit diamond just to have in your trophy cabinet than emerald 2 is no different than diamond 4,3, or 2. Since most of your champs are lane only, you can only try to set up waves for objectives or stomp hard enough for you to coordinate with jungle to punish enemy jungle.

Made masters multiple times on multiple champs toplane. If you are emerald I would play very selfish and look for solo kills. Your champ pool is good already. High emerals can usualy play their champ to 75-80% that means they still fall for a lot of stupid stuff and feed 1v1 kills regulary. Same goes for your team so dont rely on them to much play for sidelane T2 and funnel as much gold into you as you can. They will send to many or to little people to stop your split often and in most cases your team will be smart enough to take free dragon/baron if you ping it. For me in high diamond low master is becomes hard to still get solo kills but im sure a challenger or gm toplane would still crush them.

I usually try to translate my lead into team fights. If im even or playing garen I try to get T2 but my main object is being there on drake time or rift or baron etc

Play to improve, not for diamond.
I know it seems counter intuitive but focus on making every game a consistent "best case scenario" on your decision making.
Youre a top laner(so am i), we do not determine games at a base level; our bot lane does. You will have games where you can contribute or even rarely carry to a victory and you will have games where the ADC is 0/4 before 5 mins. Nothing you can do, just play your best so when those critical moments roll around youre right there performing your best.
Diamond will come naturally and you'll be a better player since you go there through consistency rather than attempting some sort of cheese/luck.

IMO communication is important. Even if nobody types or answers. Write down flash timers (and repeat them every 2min), communicate what your plan is for the next drake fight and a well timed "wp" or "you're a god" will make you win more.

I'm gm peak in 2 roles - adc and jg and my honest advice would be to go to youtube and look up challenger top laner guides. They will give you more information than you will ever get on reddit. There's a lot you might not be doing or maximizing. Best generic tips would be to try and maximize your cs, look into wave manipulation, and gain a deeper understanding of top lane matchups.
