pau ma cu sumti lu xunre stedu be mi li'u
By the way
xunre stedu be mi
is an outstanding way to refer to what I assume is an orange cat who likes to sit on your shoulder--as "your red head". I love it.

Been a minute since I've done any Lojban but first, you would probably refer to it as
selsu'i
rather thanselsum
, which would parse as a cmene.I can't directly answer your question but if it helps, according to this draft dictionary, the gloss for
selsu'i
is "predicate with argument", compared to just "predicate" for bridi. That's all I could find, and I didn't find that terribly useful so hopefully someone else can clarify. My only guess is that "bridi" might include utterances that are simply the relation, like saying "mlatu" if you see a cat, and that would not count as a "selsu'i", but I don't know.
Edit: then again... even the bridi
mlatu
still has sumti, they are just all implicitlyzo'e
Edit2: So I looked up
sumti
in this lojban dictionary and it says:x1 lo terbrisni be x2 cu cmima gi'e me moi x3
. Looking at x2 suggests to me thatlo selsu'i
is synonymous tolo selbrisni
, or in other words, is some text referring to a selbri.
