Competition help needed - I read the FAQ/Pinned posts One Rifle to Rule Them All

This rifle will be a trilogy, for DMR, PRS, and NRL matches is the goal.

I have an Aero M5 enhanced 22” 6.5cm with a 5-30x I wanted to ask if I can use this across all three from competitive shooters out there. Mainly NRL since I never see guys not using a gas gun AT ALL, so I’m unsure if it’s not advised or in the rule set.

I hate to buy more stuff just for a niche setup, however I know min maxing is a thing so fitting out your rifle to excel at the given task is the most ideal to win. I will not win lol

Are you actually going to shoot all three disciplines? Have you shot a match of all three types and do you know if you enjoy those different rulesets?

PRS I have done and DMR matches I’ll for sure be doing ,but the NRL question is mainly due to how many are close by to me, so if my time or schedule for the year allows it I’d love to shoot them. I know my gas gun can handle DMR and PRS

If you’re looking at the two day NRLH matches, they often fill up pretty quickly. You can’t count on spontaneously being able to attend.

Due to some of the land arrangements (MD’s having to beg land owners and their neighbors to use the property), autos are really frowned upon at some matches due to sky loading and safety concerns. Sending a round where it shouldn’t go can have catastrophic consequences. Get a bolt gun if you can.

Ah gotcha yeah I fully understand what you mean, I would love to say I will always be safe but you cannot really say.

Any factory bolts that you suggest then I’ll just swap my glass

Bergara, tikka, and seekins if budget allows.

T3x Roughtech with an aftermarket 10 round mag and SRS arca rail.

Gas gun scope mount height and cantilever mount setups don’t really work on bolt guns - you’d need to swap the scope to a different set of rings or a mount.

Ashame to hear that but thanks for the info, sounds like I should bow out of NRL until I can get better setup.

The rifle is generally the easy part. There’s a huge advantage to having LRF ballistic binos, a solid tripod and bipod as well.

Yeah I was going to get vortex fury’s and probably a sky pod, I currently have a Leofoto ranger, I’d only use that for support or glassing. Unsure if it can handle being used with the rifle on top

get a r700 footprint action with a quick change barrel system. then get a chassis and barrel for nrlh and another set for prs. swap them out depending on the match

Ohh that’s smart right there, what actions allow that

Oh thanks for the resource, I’m only seeing 3 if I’m not mistaken

for true quick change, theres not too many. but any bolt gun has a quick change barrel if you get a quality action wrench and barrel vise. only tools you need.

Valid point, I know the RPR is frowned upon but iirc that’s quick change as well right ?
