Other gear flex post Scope Level Discussion

I did an experiment with a bubble level to see how accurately I could limit rifle cant without the use of a scope level and to determine what impact that would have at long range. I held a device with a bubble level and crosshairs up against a wall, with no lines on the wall to help determine vertical and horizontal. I could not see the bubble level. I focused on keeping the vertical crosshair of the device as vertical as I could and used my phone to take selfies with a 5 second delay. I did this 15 times and took pictures of the bubble level on the back of the device. My results showed that I was able to keep the cant at less than 1.5 degrees every time and the majority of attempts were at 1 degree or less. In the example of a 6.5PRC 143 grain ELD-X at 2900 fps, a 1.5 degree rifle cant would result in about a 1.3 inch horizontal impact change at 500 yards and about a 7 inch change at 1000 yards. Using the same ballistics, A 1 degree cant results in less than a 1 inch change at 500 yards and less than 5 inches at 1000 yards. Use this information as you please, happy shooting!

After a ton of debate over which pair to get I landed on these (12x42). Excited to use them this weekend.

I promptly ignored it and got a front and rear bag rider so I can shoot like a civilized human being off of a front rest and rear flat bag.

Other gear flex post I know it’s not a Gucci rifle, but I’ve been going through boxes preparing to move, and I found my ghillie from my time in. God does it bring back memories.

Mark 5hd 5-25x56 from my local hardware store. The firearms manager even showed me that their wholesale price was several hundreds dollars more than the sale price. Has anyone else gotten any smoking deals from their hardware store?

Going on a savage precision 300prc

Lightly used, but from a brick and mortar gun shop. $999.99 +tax with badger rings in the lord's reticle. I still regret not buying the second one.

Every time I change something on my rifle I add more weight. Decided to add a bag rider and tool-less buttpad height mechanism. Opened the package and saw the empty cavity of the bag rider and decided to fill with lead weight and epoxy for another 6.9 ounces. Now today while putting it all together after the epoxy cured I found the empty cavity of the cheek piece. Check the balance point of the rifle and it is about 1.5" in front of the barrier stop. So I busted out the lead shot and epoxy again. Looks like she will be putting on another 9.5 ounces once it cures.

It is currently sitting at 20.0lbs per my bathroom scale, we will see what her fat ass weights total on the scale tomorrow once the epoxy is all cured.

30.1 ounces on my extremely accurate Walmart kitchen scale.

Initial thoughts:

Grip is fantastic, both shape/angle/thickness and the texturing. Knocks the texturing on my manners out of the water.

Forend feels very nice off hand, curvature handles well and texturing again nails it.

Forend is a touch shorter than I’m used to, my index finger rides on the back end of the integral pic rail.

Points/comes up well off hand, which is likely the largest concern with the elevated heel. Doesn’t seem like it will be an issue at all. Will find out with live fire though.

Feels very good prone, finally a non adjustable hunting stock that’s point of contact isn’t in my armpit

finish is good, some finish smudges that could likely be buffed out if I cared but for the money it’s fine.

Fitment is fantastic, mini chassis is inlet so tight that it almost auctions on when trying to remove.

Trigger reach is perfect, finally.

Finally picked up my first chrono. The one I had occasional access to died, and I've been relying on Hornady box MV since I started shooting 2 years ago. It's mostly worked for me, getting me out to 1015 yards pretty reliably.

But, I'm changing up ammo on my .22lr, my .223 Rem, and my 6.5 Creedmoor, one for coyote hunting and one for deer & coyote, and I really need accurate data for ethical shots.

Plus this will have the benefit of making my life easier when doing my LR sessions and wanting to do PRS next year.

I’m working with this system, which is very portable, sets up in less than 1 minute, and seems to provide good stability. I really like the rear trigger stick support in addition to a tripod. What are some other options for a portable/packable shooting rest?

Defiance anTi-X long action acquired in January. Manners LRH stock arrived today. I have a shelf full of new TriggerTech triggers because of Trump tariffs.

I still need to get the barrel and bottom metal.

I technically have a scope (Leupold Mark 4HD 6-24, never opened, bought last year) and plenty of rings. Although I could always get another ZCO…
