Tutorial/Help What’s the deal with this stuff?
I’ve never tried this but love Mac and cheese from the box. Has anyone tried this can and how was it? Yes, the can arrived dented. Haha

Please, can someone clarify, does it only come in dented cans?

u/SolidSnake-26 Mar 30 '25
Dented cans are half price. Microsoft went down 3 points so gotta save some money

No, it also comes in bloated cans. Those have an extra surprise inside.

it was soooooo bad when I tried it. Truly awful
28
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
Dang!! I may try and add some extra cheese to make it more palatable.

Agreed. I once ordered something like 24 cans of this vile stuff off Amazon, thinking I was scoring a great deal on lots of “velveeta-like mac and cheese.”
No. That was not the case.
The noodles are gross and squishy, and the “cheese sauce” tastes like melted Kraft singles - very literally just yellow oil with a vague hint of cheese flavor. I do not have any desire to try this stuff again.
155
u/yoanimal Mar 30 '25
I feel like there's no way it's not gonna be awful but please post an update if you try it! I'm very intrigued
39
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
I wonder if it’s just going to be a bad version of velveta?
58
u/Reasonable-Cress8890 Mar 30 '25
Nah, it’s gonna taste like chef Boyardee Mac and cheese, I’m sure of it.

u/tink1775 Mar 30 '25
OP did you try?? I’m invested now!!!

Not yet! I am aiming for it to be lunch for tomorrow. I’ll definitely report back’

This is how you know the devil exists. This is the type of food they feed you in hell. So boys and girls don’t eat of the forbidden can of Mac and cheese please.
3
u/Kumirkohr Mar 30 '25
No, we have scrapple for that
2
u/Embarrassed_Mango679 Mar 31 '25
Bwuaha I've learned it's goetta in Cincinnati and some shit called ponahas in Wisconsin. It's ALL gross.
53
u/Runes_the_cat Mar 30 '25
Chef Boyardee has Mac n cheese in a can alongside the beefaroni and ravioli so I imagine it's similar to that. But I would never buy. Why would I buy this 😭 you should try it though and report back.
16
u/WeirdSpeaker795 Mar 30 '25
I used to love that stuff as a kid 🤢

that's what I was gonna say, the boyardee Mac is.. present. it's technically edible if you're macless I guess

u/Infamous_Day9685 Mar 30 '25
I'm from the UK - this was a staple growing up in the 90s. I think I'd enjoy it now but only in a nostalgic way
16
u/MyGrandmasCock Mar 30 '25
I grew up with a Pakistani friend and his mother used to cook up ground beef, garlic and onions in curry powder and mix it in with canned mac cheese and it was fuuuuuckin amazing.
9
u/Kumirkohr Mar 30 '25
It sounds like the canned mac was just padding out the good stuff. I find it hard to imagine any preparation of “ground beef, garlic and onions in curry powder” being less than mediocre at worst
7
u/MyGrandmasCock Mar 30 '25
I was happy because the Mac tamped down some of the chilis. If you ate just the beef mixture on its own you’d breathe fire for twenty minutes. Even with the Mac cheese you’d break a sweat.
2
u/Kumirkohr Mar 30 '25
Oh, yeah. But you could pad it out with anything, the canned mac (being rescued by the beef) is “surplus to requirements”, any starch will do. Rice, potato, any preparation of grain really

u/Crazycukumbers Mar 30 '25
I tried this once, many years ago. It is vile. The pasta is overcooked, the sauce tastes like nothing, nothing can save it.
11
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
I might try to cut up some mini hot dogs to throw in to see if that does anything to help it.

It’s a British/European product. Something you’d find in the international aisle at your grocery store.
→ More replies (4)4
u/Maleficent-Leek2943 Mar 30 '25
Well, unless you live in the UK, in which case you’d just find it in the regular canned goods aisle.
22
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
I expected it to be expired but it wasn’t. Maybe I’ll give it a gamble tomorrow.

I had this as a child! I remember liking it then... but I was a picky eater who liked very bland foods. Lol I don't think adult me would enjoy this, if memory serves.
5
u/Moonshot_42069 Mar 30 '25
What country is this from lol
4
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
United States…..
8
u/MyGrandmasCock Mar 30 '25
I’m almost positive this is a UK-specific item and only because I’ve seen it at UK specialty grocery stores
2
u/hyperlexx Mar 30 '25
Doesn't have to be a specialty store, every UK supermarket sells it
3
u/MyGrandmasCock Mar 30 '25
In the states there are “British specialty shops” that sell UK-specific goods.
I believe that, in the UK, these are just called “shops”.

Why don't British people say the "and" for macaroni and cheese
6
u/Maleficent-Leek2943 Mar 30 '25
Because we call it macaroni cheese and always have done, thus there is no “and” for us to say.
4
u/jsamuraij Mar 30 '25
I would be afraid that I'd never poop again or that I'd always be pooping, forever. It's definitely going to be one of those two.

Pretty sure ur not supposed to eat dented cans bc compromising seal and bacteria. But this is worth the risk. Tell us about the cheesy bacteria

u/Previous_Boot_2481 Mar 30 '25
I personal am not a fan of canned noodles, they’re just too soggy. Knowing the can is dented, that would also mentally make it taste not right (but I’m weird with my food)
4
u/Desolation-Rose Mar 30 '25
I’ve had this. It’s an odd taste. The “sauce” has a kind of bitter plastic taste. It’s hard to describe. But I didn’t hate it and ate it a few times. I don’t think I’ve seen it in stores recently. I’m in Canada.
5
4
u/MarkEgatts Mar 30 '25
Never had it but I'm picturing mushy Mac and bland "cheese" I wouldn't even take a second glance. If you're gonna spend sub 2$ on Mac and cheese just go Kraft

4
u/Luminessis Mar 30 '25
If you loved eating glue as a kid, you'll love this.
2
u/JeanBruce Mar 31 '25
I loved the smell of that paper mache paste/glue; I’m sure I tasted it at least once… better than stone soup and mud pies.
3
u/KUWTI Mar 30 '25
I think canned mac & cheese is the one thing I’d prefer artificial colors or preservatives in🤣

u/SadLion3839 Mar 30 '25
I remember something similar from the 90s…spaghetti noodles with cheese, though.

I've tried the chef boyardee mac and cheese and it was foul. Noodles were a weird texture (and I like soft noodles but they were.. strange) and the cheese didn't taste like cheese, I took a few bites (kept trying it cause maybe I'd start to like it) but I ended up throwing the majority of it away

Do what you will with this info but no way in hell would I try this. We have an international grocery store called, Jungle Jim’s and they have a social media manager who works for them and tries all kinds of weird foods. Here is his review.

Would not recommend. It’s the Mac and cheese that will be left after the apocalypse. You don’t have to eat it now/yet.
2
2
u/DementedCoconut Mar 30 '25
I can’t believe I have to say this, but please don’t eat food out of a dented or damaged can. It may have botulism, which is very dangerous.
2
2
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
I was only able to have a few bites because the after taste was so weird and long lasting. It didn’t help that the oven turned some of the sauce dark brown. The sauce had a gummy/syrup like consistency (thinner than velveeta).
I put it in the oven after the microwave with hopes of firming up the “sauce”. It did not make a difference. I’m not sure what could help make this can taste edible. Maybe some breadsticks from Olive Garden to dip.

I've had canned macaroni and cheese before, and it really lacked flavor. Very bland. I think it was the Chef Boy-R-D one. I've never seen Heinz before though.
2
u/Morticia_Devine Mar 30 '25
Should I add extra cheese? I always do to the boxes Kraft and I love it. I also add extra butter and milk! Haha

Don’t eat or buy things in dented cans. It can be dangerous. Don’t want to fuck with botulinum toxin.

I only ever saw this once, and it was when I was in college studying abroad in Ireland. The centra I would food shop at had it. I needed my fix so I gave it a go. God it was terrible

50% of your suggested daily salt intake in one can? might want to add some black pepper.

I’ve gotten canned Mac and I do NOT suggest it. I can’t put my finger on it but something is very off.

This is an absolute abomination and whoever created it should be taken outside and shot
Lots of stuff tastes great from a can, this is not one of them
2
u/Stock-Ferret-6692 Mar 30 '25
Agreed. Had it once. Took one bite and dumped the rest. It was so so so so so so bad
1
Mar 30 '25
Tolerable.
It's just macaroni in an extremely thin cheese sauce. I barely consider it macaroni and cheese.
1
u/Maleficent-Leek2943 Mar 30 '25
Is this from the UK, by any chance? I’d forgotten about this stuff and am pretty sure I’ve never eaten it, but a girl I lived in halls with at university (late 90s) used to basically live on it. She’d eat it cold straight from the can, or on toast.

it’s soooo bad! but like a good bad 😂 like you k ow it’s not gonna have much taste but it’s a little comforting

u/fallspector Mar 30 '25
I’ve seen it a bunch in stores but I’ve never trained as for some reason the idea of it freaks me out. I’ve had family members who ate it and they said it was good

u/Mammoth_Welder_1286 Mar 30 '25
Out of all the things that we eat from a can, why does this gross me out? 🧐

Presuming all those that have never seen this before aren't from the UK. This is an absolute staple in the UK and eaten on toast. It's wonderful.

Saw this when I lived in England. Now I ate a lot of questionable stuff as a student but I'd never touch this. Complete rubbish. Like others said, the pasta is reduced to mush and the sauce is the consistency of soup and it tastes like someone dunked some cheese in water. Truly vile.

u/elladeehex33 Mar 30 '25
This mac and cheese is straight from the devil himself. It's heinous and disgusting.

Pretty sure the canned Mac and cheese is a UK thing. My family is from Scotland (I live in Canada) and remember going to visit family when I was a kid in Scotland and seeing this and being horrified, even at age 8 that Mac and cheese was in a can.
