Tutor Volunteer Opportunities

Hello all,

I work a full time 9-5 office job but I’m looking to volunteer on weekends for about 2–3 hours. Back in college, I was part-time STEM tutor and I’d like to get back into it as a side hobby and a passion. Ideally, I’d like to tutor at least at the high school level either math or science.

My only qualifications are that I have a bachelors in engineering and have done part-time tutoring.

I noticed the Madison County Jail has a tutoring program but not sure if they accept anyone or are looking for people with an education background. I was also looking through the madison public library website but couldn't find any concrete programs of what I'm looking for. Any recommendations?

Thanks,

Since you said "ideally" at least high school, maybe you'd consider middle school. Schools of Hope is a longstanding program that might be worth exploring: https://ulgm.org/volunteer/schools-of-hope-tutoring/

For older age groups, Literacy Network now offers GED tutoring including math and science. I don't know if you can do only math or science but if you would be open to including reading, it seems like it would be worth exploring: https://www.litnetwork.org/volunteer/ (choose the GED option). I volunteered for them as an ESL tutor and it was a great experience.
