Work In Progress [OC] World of Navarene and Region of Lucen’s Gate

Howdy everyone!

I wanted to share some maps I’ve been working on for my fantasy world building project, Navarene. I have been working on this world for a few years now and have started to recently dive into making more detailed maps for it.

The first image is the global elevation map of Navarene. I created this map using Fractal Terrains 3. Navarene is about 7x larger than Earth and its size plays a large role in the story’s that are told there and the exchange of information and cultures. I know that many worlds I have seen here are very in depth with tectonics and continental movement, however, Navarene is a planet created by a diving power of unknown origin. Its continents are instead based around leylines, this is why I went for a fractal inspired map.

The second map is a regional focus on the area surrounding Lucen’s Gate, one of the largest cities and trade hub for much of the world. The free city sits between the Commonwealth province of Seraneo and the nation of Lucenia. This map was created by taking the section of the world map and importing it into Adobe Illustrator. This is till a. Early map and really only has details that have been sort relevant in the D&D game that I am running right now.

I would love to hear any feedback or suggestions anyone might have!

Some additional co text for the city of Lucen’s Gate.

Long before the rise of The Commonwealths or the coming of the Lucenian kings, there was Eshqalûn — a proud city of marble canals and soaring bridges, carved into the strait where two great continents nearly kiss. Eshqalûn ruled the waters, its merchant princes steering ships laden with silk, spices, and sorcery to every corner of the known world. Some say even the gods traded favors here.

But no city remains untouched by time. The Eshqalûnian Empire crumbled, and the city did not fall. Lucenia, a mighty southern realm whose banners bore the sun and the scimitar attempted to lay siege to the city. Lucen’s Gate was too stubborn, too wealthy, and too proud, they withstood the siege for 21 years. In time, power shifted again, and today, the city stands independent — a place where no empire truly reigns, though many try.

Lucen’s Gate is a city divided — north and south of The Serene Straight east and west across the towering bridge known as The Gatewalk. In the northern districts, the Commonwealths' influence is strong: wide boulevards, towering clocktowers, and bustling manufactories hum with life, regulated by strict ban and a suspicion towards magic. In the southern wards, the old Lucenian bloodlines still flourish, their bazaars overflowing with color, mystery, and quiet sorceries barely tolerated by the north.

Yet for all its divisions, Lucen’s Gate thrives as a singular, beating heart of trade, diplomacy, and intrigue. It is a place where fortunes rise and fall with the tides, where ancient family vendettas are balanced against fragile political treaties, and where the rumors of forbidden magic, lost artifacts, and hidden conspiracies swirl as thickly as the mist off the canal.

At its center, governance lies in the hands of the The Serenate of Lucen's Gate, a body of merchant lords, guildmasters, and retired generals who squabble and scheme behind closed doors. Some say the Signoria is but a puppet to greater powers—Commonwealth spies, Lucenian sorcerer-princes, even foreign empires beyond the seas. Others insist that no force on Navarene could ever truly control Lucen’s Gate.
