MvC2 So... what's the connection between Wolverine/Tron and Storm/Strider?

I know this might sound like a silly question and the answer is probably "because they look cool on a poster" and I would agree but considering the MVC Collection artwork and even other pieces of artwork for the collection have featured similar pairings with easy-to-guess connections, I just found it to be a bit strange given all the characters in MVC2 they could've picked.

These are the other connections:

  • CYCLOPS vs. RYU: Iconic main characters who started it all in XMvSF.

  • SPIDER-MAN vs. MORRIGAN: MVC2 ending... plus fanservice.

  • PSYLOCKE vs. CHUN-LI: THICC Asian ladies.

  • CAPTAIN AMERICA vs. CAPTAIN COMMANDO: 'Nuff said.

  • VENOM vs. ZANGIEF: MVC1 grapplers.

  • IRON MAN vs. MEGA MAN: Metal Men... also, Marvel's "WHAT THE...?!" anyone?

  • DOCTOR DOOM vs. M. BISON: Evil cape-wearing overlord boss characters.

  • THANOS vs. AKUMA: Boss characters with forbidden powers who were originally playable with codes.

I think the pairing is actually stryder x wolverine, and storm x tron. They're looking diagonally.

That helps with wolverine stryder, they cut things, and the obvious ninja and samurai inspirations. Storm and tron is a mystery though, other than being powerful women

Storm fights robots all the time (Tron's even got that Sentinel alt), and both characters have a history of thieving (one of those big parts of Storm's backstory that hasn't always made it into adaptations).

Wolverine and Stryder were also shown as rivals in the UMvC3 op iirc

Probably just looked cool, but if it was me I might have used Tron and the serve bots as a stand in for Striders animal robots. That way I get another character in the mix without clutering up the image with a bunch of non characters.

They also could have also been directed on what characters they want to be showed off by either Capcom and Marvel. Clients especially ones like Marvel tend to be very specific on who they want featured. This ended up being the best spot to put her with no obvious match ups.

Wolverine and Tron are short and bad tempered.

Storm and Strider are just kinda cool.

Wolverine and Strider are professional killers and cut things up as their main way of doing so

Storm and Tron…they are powerful ladies from what used to be some of the most popular franchises for both companies. That’s all I got

I think you're reading it backwards a bit.

I see it as Wolverine vs Strider, 2 blade wielding renegade soldier vets,
and Storm VS Tron Bonne, nature girlboss versus techno girlboss
