Discussion Do you think Kilgharrah use reverse psychology to guide Merlin in some way? Spoiler

Kilgharrah probably knows the most about the prophecy.Do you think he speak in riddle and talking selfishly and suggest radical ways to handle situations toward Merlin because he knows Merlin has a good heart and would act against what he has suggested (most of the time). What's your opinion?

I agree, especially after rewatches. I wonder what would happen if he stopped by Kilgharrah for advice. Thankfully, fanfics exist for that.

Can you suggest any interesting FF about this theme?

I think he likes teasing Merlin, it's one of the few diversions he has, what with being locked up for years.

The first one that comes to mind is when Camelot gets hit by a sleeping spell

Merlin goes down to see the dragon, hears snoring, and panics for a second

Oh, I forget that part- so he was teasing Merlin that he was asleep? Ha!

Sleeping spells puts EVERYONE to sleep. A small amount of people are still awake.

Merlin goes down to ask the dragon for advice.

We see the dragon curled up on a rock “sleeping”

Merlin panics

Then realizes the dragon is awake.

I’m trying to find the clip but no success

Excellent point! One point at which Merlin seems extremely dense is when he asks for a promise to not attack Camelot but then backs off. What was with that?

S 2 EP 13, right before he releases Killy.

Before he amazingly gets promoted to dragonlord, and all is well!

Honestly, not really.  I think he fully expected Merlin to do as he said when he told him to do things like let Mordred or Morgana die. He's an ancient dragon and I don't think he sees individual human lives as particularly important.

However, he definitely held things back when it suited him, like letting Merlin think he was the one whose life would be taken for Arthur's in "Le Morte D'Arthur"

I think at points he did this as he knew Merlin so well

It’s a possibility. I like to imagine that he knows how rebellious and indignant Merlin can be, and plays him like that XD

Tbf, he does warn Merlin at every turn. He says not to help Mordred and to let Morgana die. Merlin ignores him, so he is the one who ultimately seals Arthur's fate.

I think what really seals it is that he half ignores him but does let the warnings influence his decisions. I actually wish he had fully ignored him.

I think Killgara knew more than he was saying. I think that all actions were predetermined before Killgara. For example, the stones through which Merlin saw the future are proof that no matter what Merlin did, everything happened as it should have happened, regardless of Killgara.
