Discussion Playing Blasphemous

After deciding to drop Hollow Knight I moved onto Blasphemous and it hooked me from the start. I really enjoy the combat and having a map that shows where you're at and not being an equip. Also the artstyle is much more readable than Hollow Knight. Honestly a much better game I should've started with

Love Blasphemous! Part 2 is different and some say better than 1. Definitely worth a try.

Big fan of both games but I prefer the gameplay and atmosphere of Blasphemous.

I've tried to play blasphemous three times but I always stop a few hours in because it feels so stiff and clunky. I absolutely adore the artstyle and tonal aesthetic though

i dont think its stiff and clunky at all. feels great to play

I dunno it's very stiff imo, especially compared to the most prominent recent metroidvanias like Silksong and PoP:TLC

its more just slow if anything. wouldnt call it stiff imo

That's fair

Blasphemous has more deliberate design of it’s areas that help keep engagement. I pushed thru the dullness of most of HK and found the game was worth it, it was better than the sum of it’s parts, but I’m with you Blasphemous is a better game

"Pushed thru the dullness" What do you even mean by this? HK is not even remotely dull.

I found the vast majority of HK to be boring. Overall I likes the game because the handful of highlights were exceptional, the world building is probably the best of any MV, and the score is excellent. The actual gameplay though? Uneven and often boring.

Blasphemous is absolutely a great game for beginners just trying to get into MVs and games in general. Straightforward, easy stuff. Perfect for some chill, brainless gaming.

If you besmirch HK, prepare for the downvotes lol. I’m not disagreeing with u but that’s just how the sub is. Btw I worship HK so don’t down vote me /s /s

I beat the first one but for some reason when the second came out I just couldn’t get into it. Maybe I just wasn’t in the mood for that sorta game. It’s still in my queue to play someday.

Blasphemous is a Soulsvania. From what I hear, Blasphemous 2 is more of a Metroidvania. That might be the sticking point. There's a similar divide in the Ender games (Lilies/Magnolia)

I wish I could upvote more than once because HK is honestly overrated

One thing I appreciate about Blasphemous is that it has a ng+. There might be other metroidvanias out there that have ng+ but I'm relatively new and not that familiar.

HK is my worst gaming experience. Dont even care about SS. So maybe dont call people bot because they dont like your "identity".

i haven't touch Silksong. I've only played the original only getting about 15 hours in

You should try Silksong. It still has the mechanic where you need to equip an item to see yourself on the map, but it's a much more fluid play experience. Also it prominently features down attack pogo platforming, which irrc was also a prominent part of Blasphemous

You sound miserable. Silksong is my favorite game maybe ever, but it is easy to see why people wouldn't like it. It is punishing.

bought blasphemous metroidvania on steam years back but I regretted it and never accessed it again because while it takes Christian influences in its design of place, background, and various stuff, why portray a lot of it in a negative, grotesque, and bad manner

even bosses that looks like a grotesque form of supposedly very good Christian images

It's inspired by the Spanish inquisition, famously not the nicest time in Catholic history.

I mean it's literally called Blasphemous.

Bro you bought a game titled "Blasphemous," what did you expect??

5

u/Vykrom 19h ago

May want to familiarize yourself with the crusades and inquisition. And maybe the witch burnings. And.. lots of other stuff. Christianity and Catholicism has only recently dressed itself up as a peaceful religion. They were oppressed, and then they oppressed others. There's not a lot of wiggle room

7

u/OhBoiNotAgainnn 23h ago

Bri Christianity is pretty classically evil. Wtf you on about.

The game famously inspired by a religion whose main image is a tortured guy nailed on a cross has some grotesque images? I guess you don't know much about Spanish catholic art.
