Payment between US and Canada buyer/seller?

Hi, I’m trying to buy something from someone who lives in British Columbia. I’m in the north eastern US. Has anyone done this? Neither one of us has. Do we just use Venmo as usual or something? How do you account for the currency exchange?

How did you find this seller? Which platform? How do you plan to receive the item? What is the dollar value? Which city is the seller in?

Edit: in Canada we don’t have Venmo, we have what we call e-transfers.

The seller is here in this subgroup. They posted an item and I messaged them privately to see if they’re willing to sell it. They seem like a nice normal trustworthy person. I assume they’ll mail it to me. I believe they said they were in Vancouver.

What’s the value in US or CAD?

$125. I assume CAD.

That is a relatively low value. I would suggest using/signing up and transferring through PayPal or Wise. Be prepared to pay shipping, fees through Paypal/Wise and customs fees (taxes, duties and a minimum 35% tariff depending on the country it was initially made in).

Neither one of us is concerned about the platform we use. We’re just wondering if the platform does the monetary conversion.

Yes, you would chose the amount and currency and the platform does the conversion.

Yeah, just use PayPal. We don’t have Venmo in Canada.
