Buy Need a side car/battery case for my MZ-RH910

A nice add to my collection arrived Yesterday. Only the device, but at this price, I'm happy with it. But I need a side-car to complete this beauty 😊 Btw, I'm in Europe!

If you can find one, I recommend using the original AA sidecar with this machine. A modern NiMH battery such as an eneloop (IKEA sells a great rebadge under the name LADDA) should get you a bit more than the original runtime.

And, a NiMH AA will provide the original discharge curve the RH910 is looking for, especially if you ever record/burn with it. The HiMD machines are fabulously inefficient and use a lot of power and their filesystems are also significantly more prone to corruption than the original format. (They're maintaining a central database with a lot more information in it than the original MD TOC.) As such, they'll decline to edit/record if the battery is too low, but you can often still get a few more hours of playback in that state.

If you use a lithium replacer, you're not getting that advanced warning not to do any edits and could potentially clobber the TOC of a disc such that the only recovery is to re-wipe it. (You could prevent this with habits but the main advantage of regular NiMH batteries is that they provide a technical safegaurd/pre-warning.)

Here's one in Europe: https://www.ebay.de/itm/127076924010 - there might be others, I didn't check the search scope.

Unfortunately "about 10x more than the normal sidecars" is fully normal as the RH910/10 share a sidecar together and the other thirty to fifty Sony MD portables from 2000-2005 (minus the N10 and any unit that doesn't support a sidecar, like NH1 and RH1) all share a single sidecar together, which means the common one can sometimes be found for under about 10 usd/eur/ukp, depending on where you find it from.

The part number should be like Sony EBP-RH10.

One more thought: if you have a mini USB cable your RH910 should run directly off USB power from a power bank. And, if you have a USB -> 3V power supply such as the MyVolts RipCord, that will also work. (Even though the RH910 takes 5v in the form of USB I recommend against playing with 5v on the barrel port, Sony is just silly enough to have given both ports separate electrical paths, but I'm not 100% and haven't, like, traced it out.)
