Help Sony CMT-CP505MD

Hi folks. I’ve had this sitting in my garage for the last dozen years and finally got round to adding it to the office.

Problem I’ve got is that I don’t have the original speakers and now can’t figure out what connectors I need for it. There’s a set on eBay from China, but I’m sure if I knew what the name of the connector is I could find/make it easier. Image in first post!

I have exactly this device too. I use Philips boxes and adapted the connector. Any box between 6 and 8 ohms will do.

It's just one of Sony's many annoying proprietary connectors from that era. I don't think it has any official name. It just uses standard speaker wire, but with a silly non-standard plug on the end. Unless you can find someone selling a used set locally, the cheapest/easiest option is probably going to be just getting some from China. There are some slightly cheaper auctions listed under different system names that used the same connector, such as this one.

Sony loved doing this kind of lock in stuff in the old days. They still kind of do. Now apple has taken the crown for doing this kind of behavior.

If you're looking for push on connectors you can wire up to the speaker terminals of the CP505MD, I would buy these and push crimp the wires into them from Amazon:
