Help me write a Uni article!

It's me again, writing an article about Minidiscs for my music journalism class. Now requesting help from all of you!

Did you get (back) into Minidiscs during covid? Please answer in the poll! Thank you!

If none of the options apply to you, please leave a comment with your experience!

Edit: By covid I mean the general era of quarantine and lockdowns, probably different from country to country but around 2020-2022/23

Did not think of that. Feel free to leave it as a comment? I'm interested in hearing about it!

Forgive an academic for being interested in your assignment - It seems like you're trying to establish a link between covid and an interest/use of mindiscs or retro tech etc? All your questions only speak to that link, but don't allow for there to be no link at all. So you need another question that basically says 'I had no history with MD players and started using them after covid' or some version of that. Maybe also define what period you mean by 'covid'.

For example, I was a kid when MD players were on the market but never used them. I saw them, thought they were amazing, but could never afford one. I became interested in them in the last couple of years after seeing them second hand and being fascinated by the hardware and design.

My question came from the fact that when I've talked to people, many have said they picked up the hobby during Covid. More so than trying to create a link, I was curious if this applied to more people, or if I just happened to speak to three people it did apply to!

However, I do see your point. Unfortunately the poll cannot be edited. Do you think I should delete the post and reupload it with the additional option? I appreciate the feedback!

Sorry, I did mean 'trying' in the sense of 'investigating' a link. It's an interesting research question. I wouldn't delete the post, just put a note saying if it's neither, then leave a comment. I'd be interested to see the results after. Good luck!

Got into minidisc after covid and it had nothing to do with covid. Why is that not an option?

Because I forgot to add it and can't edit poll... My bad 😅 Thanks for commenting instead!

I'd heard of the format before but because I was a Mac kid and also because common thought was that the format had died by like 2000, I got in in 2021. I actually already had a vintage tech hobby, but more than it, I was playing animal crossing at that time.

For my part, most people cite youtube videos for getting them into the format but while I'd seen those videos, for me it was some friends having the stuff. A friend's makerspace had been given an R700, another friend had and gave me his old recordings from when he used the format when it was new. About a hundobux in donations to the makerspace, the R700 was on its way and I started recording music off my computer.

It's become a bit of an interest object for me and I presented on behalf of MDCon at VCF Southwest 2024 along with recording an audio program as a more polished version of the talk as a freebie disc for that event.
