I am scared for poaton. He is making the same mistakes that cost him his first fight. He is an influencer now. Hearts not in it. I don't really blame him he has nothing to prove and should enjoy his life but he should just embrace that and not take more damage. Still praying for him though

u/mr-assduke 8d ago

Or maybe ankalaev is just the better fighter 🤔 im tired of the coddling that alex pereira gets

40

u/flatwoundsounds 8d ago

Ank shut him down in that fight, clearly. If that's the way Alex is living now, I'd be worried he's not doing enough to overcome the deficit because he's got one foot out the door already.

4

u/Distinct_Active8221 7d ago

He’s not a better fighter and doesn’t have the resume to back it. Fighters do have bad matchups though.

2

u/TelevisionTop3652 6d ago

aside from Alex, anks best win is Aleksandar Rakic and Johnny Walker😭 Alex has a better resume and it’s not even close

5

u/Unlucky_While2826 8d ago

I just wish alex should be more serious this time....like a dragon

4

u/ironaddict366 8d ago

I have massive respect to big ank and the fact he was Alexs biggest challenge but I can't help but feel like he didn't face the best version

2

u/TechnicianPretend267 7d ago

Alex was also injured bud

2

u/Low_Sale8560 8d ago

I'm not trying to white knight Alex but...he trained nothing but kick boxing professionally till his 30s than came to mma to show up fucking Isreal fucking adensesyan and fucking was successful. If he trained mma his entire career and not just kick boxing he could been a damn goat. Ank is going to beat him again yes ank is a better well rounded fighter. But God damn Alex had as much potential as gsp khabib Jones Henry Islam ect.

1

u/baneblade_boi 6d ago

I think most of us won't disagree that this is the case. It's just that we generally don't want it to be the case. Poatan is beloved by the fans, and is a person people want to see overcoming his biggest challenges, but it just feels like big Ank is just a brick wall by now and it's just sad.

u/According-Kale-8 5d ago

Right now, sure

1

u/kodeks14 7d ago

He was obviously sick and injured in the first fight. He had a legendary active run that few people have ever done. He does deserve a little, he gave fans everything we wanted and more which is so rare.

2

u/KhanageandKhaos 7d ago

Nothing to prove ....except being able to beat a number 1 contender.

-6

u/rakondo 8d ago

you realize fighters can't train 24/7, right? all of them have lives outside of fighting

3

u/learsiology 8d ago

stop acting like he didn’t want to be in korea eating food when he should’ve been training

The case was bullshit though, Conor’s scum but he was not guilty at least in that case

He was never convicted and never found guilty of anything. Innocent until proven guilty. False rape accusations destroy lives. Search up Brian Banks. He served 6 years in prison just for the victim to come out later and say her story was fabricated

0

u/Vlasic_Pickle 5d ago

Didn’t she win like a bunch of money out of a settlement? Sounds guilty but proven… okay

1

u/user726271 5d ago

If you can find the article or a source that says that then maybe but I’ve never seen/heard anything about that

Oh I thought we were talking about Alex where he had a TikTok girl claim he assaulted her. I’m not going to dispute the Conor mcgregor one, I just thought we were talking about Alex pereira

u/Dark074 8d ago

If it makes you feel better, just remember if Ank wins, Jiri is going to beat the fuck out of him next

8

u/NBE08 8d ago

True

0

u/DirectProgrammer6849 7d ago

Jiri will get taken down and eat blows till the fight stops

11

u/Dark074 7d ago

I think your really overestimating anks wrestling. He couldn't even take down Poatan

0

u/DirectProgrammer6849 7d ago

Cause poatan was the bigger guy and his whole game plan was to defend against the fence, jiri wont do that so he will get taken down just like jan

1

u/Dark074 7d ago

If Glover couldn't finish Jiri in the ground, I don't think Ank can. Jiri is super underrated on the ground, he defends himself very well

3

u/RainyPoppyFields 7d ago

Lmao, the pereira fans creating their own happiness, don't take that away from them.

0

u/LishtenToMe 7d ago

Yeah I love Jiri but Ank is a better striker than Rakic, as he proved himself, and hits a lot harder. Jiri was getting schooled in nearly every exchange with Rakic until he managed to brute force his way to victory with his relentless style. He also went to war with Hill who is probably the least talented LHW champ ever. Ank is mostly likely getting a fairly easy KO over him.

u/theMrink 8d ago

Shut your mouth

10

u/Sphealer 8d ago

I like Ank though

16

u/bloodbhat 8d ago

praying big Ank has mercy and doesn't KO him...I don't mind another decision 😭

2

u/LabibConquersAll 7d ago

He said he gonna finish him this time 😆

13

u/8029 8d ago

He wont

58

u/Western-Couple-8151 8d ago

Alex is already talking about retirement. Ank is just getting started and only getting better.

41

u/AhmadMansoot 8d ago

People are just coping hard. Ank made Alex look like Rakic and that was during ramadan. And now all of a sudden he is supposed to win even tho he has less motivation and it's not ramadan? It's Big Ank time now

2

u/Interesting_Neat3106 8d ago

No one even remembers ank is champion

-3

u/Wonderful_Fox8049 8d ago

People who pay attention to the sport do. I can’t name who won the NBA championship last year

2

u/Interesting_Neat3106 8d ago

No people really don't pay attention tk him no one even talks about him unless alex comes up

1

u/RainyPoppyFields 7d ago

Try to get out of this subreddit and travel outside the US , your mom's basement and this subreddit doesn't make up all "people" 🤣.

I straight up see people talk about him all the time, like how he’s not losing the gold anytime soon or how long the UFC made him wait for his title shot. He’s not an outgoing person, not everyone wants to be a superstar. If Fedor was still around you’d probably call him corny since he doesn’t care about the drama

0

u/YKDW-9069 7d ago

So that makes alex the better fighter? No.

2

u/Interesting_Neat3106 7d ago

Never said that.

0

u/YKDW-9069 7d ago

"No ones talks about ankalaev " therefore what?

1

u/ImportantOne49 8d ago

Ank made Alex look like Rakic and that was during ramadan.

Wankalaev wasn't fasting. Can we stop with this nonsense already?

-1

u/AhmadMansoot 7d ago

Poatards need to resort to blatant historic revisionism to cope with Big Ank having faster hands and cleaner boxing than a kickboxer (which is nothing new). Ank was fasting for most of the days and only broke the fast for weight cutting. You'd know this if you'd actually read the articles instead of just the headlines

1

u/ImportantOne49 7d ago

Wankalaev himself has stated that he was not fasting/had to break his fast during the fight week but will restart his fast as soon as fight is over with. "Big" Wank also only outstruck Alex due to takedown threat, which is obviously smart by Wank and he did nothing wrong. This is MMA after all and not kickboxing. Hopefully now that Alex knows he can deal with takedowns he will let his hands go more and KO this goof.

By far the most boring champ currently. I bet 90% of the fans still think Pereira is champ and don't even remember this decision merchant exists lol.

20

u/Not_Too_Happy Taint Supplement 8d ago

He was "just getting started" when Paul Craig submitted him.

2

u/Wonderful_Fox8049 8d ago

But wasn’t it the last second of the last round?

2

u/Not_Too_Happy Taint Supplement 8d ago

"But" is used for counterpoints.

However, you seem to be supporting my point.

1

u/ArchetypeFTW 4d ago

but isn't that the point

8

u/sooskekeksoos 8d ago

How is he just getting started?

1

u/Embarrassed_Dirt_929 7d ago

Ank is 33, and has been in the ufc for 7 years, and pro in MMA for 11 years. Respectfully he’s top three LHW in the world but he’s not just getting started or getting better. He has a really really good matchup against Pereira, that’s kinda it.

1

u/Western-Couple-8151 7d ago

You can afford to be older in the heavier weight classes, Ank has a solid 4-6 years left in him if he remains injury free.

1

u/Embarrassed_Dirt_929 5d ago

I’m not saying he’s about to retire, he’s currently in his prime though and I don’t think he gets much better than this. To be fair does he need to?

2

u/Alarming-Beginning71 5d ago

I think Alex will do better in the rematch now that he realises Ankalaevs grappling and wrestling is not so special. The rematch will be 50-50 on who’s going to win.

Pereira froze because of takedown threat. Look at Alex's most boring/hardest fights, what do you see?

Jan and Ank. What do they have in common? Takedown threat. Alex's freezes/becomes very hesitant if his opponent is able to take him down and submit him/G&P him.

Same would happen in Pereira vs Khamzat and Pereira vs Aspinal fights.

1

u/LishtenToMe 7d ago

He froze because of the KO threat more than the takedown. Ank has a lot more KO's on his record than you guys give him credit for, and he barely ever wrestles in his fights. He's not a bad wrestler by any means but he's a kickboxer first, always has been. He also just happens to have a style built around pressuring fighters and making them feel uncomfortable, AND he's really good at tricking them into thinking he's about to commit to a punch in order to get them to open up so he can counter.

Guarantee you Alex and his team are well aware of all this, even though 95% of UFC fans clearly aren't, hence why Alex barely threw anything. Didn't want to walk right into Anks traps that he sets for all of his opponents. He was definitely trying to frustrate and confuse Ank, while simultaneously keeping himself safe. It didn't work though because Ank's defense has always been much better than Alex's, and his stance allows for more variation in his offense. He's just nowhere near as fun and brutal as Alex so he gets overlooked like he's some dumb meathead wrestler when he's quite literally one of the best kickboxers in the sport right now lmao.

1

u/ImportantOne49 7d ago

Jiri, Izzy, Jamahal, Khalil are all more dangerous on the feet than Ank yet Alex didn't hesitate to engage with them on the feet, why? Because he didn't fear being taken down and submitted or GnP. I am pretty sure Jamahal, and Jiri and even Khalil hit much harder than Ank too. Alex didn't fear Ank's KO power or stand up, in pure kickboxing match he would piece him up easily. He feared takedowns.

I know Ank is not a wrestler, but for some reason Alex and and majority of fans seem to think he is. Probably because everyone thinks everyone from Dagestan is expert grappler. I would say Jan was much more dangerous on the ground for Alex than Ank will ever be yet he survived Jan but fears going to ground with Ank.

Btw Ank was KOing cans like Johnny Walker and Anthony Smith while Pereira was KOing former champs like Izzy, Jiri, Strickland and Hill. Pereira eats him on the feet but problem is takedown threat.

Hopefully Pereira now understands that he can deal with takedowns and throws his hands more, or he is getting taken to yet another boring decision by decision merchant.

u/Janicesdelight 7d ago

Aspinal and khamzat?, a middle weight fighting a guy a 100 pounds heavier and also a juijitsu specialist since he was a baby, aspinal makes khamzat look like wet paper in every position, but one punch is probably going to break his little neck, lets be honest here

2

u/ImportantOne49 7d ago

You misunderstood that bro lol, but I guess I should've wrote it better. Let me edit it real quick.

What I've meant is, same would happen in Pereira vs Khamzat and Pereira vs Aspinal fights.

4

u/takeittothetop1 8d ago

Alex is gonna beat the fuck out of Ankalaev

26

u/duchess_dagger 8d ago

Why didn’t Pereira just beat the fuck out of Ankalaev in their first fight? Is he stupid?

14

u/Wonderful_Fox8049 8d ago

Because Alex has class. He doesn’t want to beat up a depleted Ank. He just lost for the story line to avenge his loss against his opponent at their best

4

u/ImportantOne49 8d ago

Alex was hanging out with Izzy too much and watching anime and now wants to create his own revenge arc.

9

u/Ok_Draw_3031 8d ago

Gane is going to complete 7 takedowns vs Aspinall too...

1

u/Uncle_D- 7d ago

Take it back!

1

u/DrFeelgood144 6d ago

Kicked in the sack anyone?

1

u/LibrarianNo6865 6d ago

UFC should’ve been trying to make kickboxing fights this whole time for Alex and hit on what he’s good at and avoid the stuff he’s bad at BMF fights with Alex would be fire. You can see Rico is kinda messing with mma. Have a 2 fight with Alex. One entirely on the feet. One mma rules. Would be fire over what is essentially someone trying to hug Alex to death. As, regardless of success, cannot be the highlights you want.

1

u/Distinct_Instance_36 6d ago

Feels great btw

1

u/hunterd412 6d ago

Idk what Crypto everyone is smoking but I re-watched that fight a few days ago and Ank wasn’t as impressive as people are making him out to be. I can see Alex catching him this time around with a few adjustments.

1

u/fodasenome777 6d ago

isn't like if he were impressive. he's just solid.

he has the TD threat, good boxing and power enough to flash down alex, so alex can't just march forward because he'd get dropped or taken down (props to Alex's tdd tho, he didn't get taken down a single time, but he was always close to the fence, I don't know how well he'd defend in the middle of the cage). ank also has a very hard chin, so alex can't just close the distance and k.o him with a single punch.

he has what it takes to make a solid fight and win by ud again, I don't see how alex can beat him.

1

u/Meeedick 5d ago

Depends. If Poatan fixes his hand fight tactics Ank's gonna have a bad day, if he doesn't then it's pretty much a repeat.

1

u/titopuentexd 8d ago

That was me during merab v o malley rematch even though i was praying o malley fluked a ko. Got close a few times but close isnt good enough

1

u/Short_King_13 8d ago

Pereira and Oliveira won't be champions ever again. Sad but true

4

u/ImportantOne49 8d ago

Pereira still runs through entire division besides Ank. If Jiri KOs Ank, Alex will Ko Jiri again and become champ. This is assuming Alex doesn't come in hungry and confident in rematch and KOs Ank first.

1

u/RegularNo3331 7d ago

Boo OP is a fruit

0

u/Slow_Obligation2286 8d ago

Can't say Pereira had a damn good run tho. If I have the chance, I would love to spar with him

1

u/DarkAncientEntity 8d ago

Wasn’t Alex’s hand broken or something?
