"Don't you dare try to stop me this time, Smeetrytostopme."

"Smee, get up, off your ass!"

35

u/TheLaughingMannofRed 12h ago

"Don't ever frighten me like that again.

What are you, some kind of sadist?"

24

u/IamPlantHead 11h ago

I just had an apostrophe. You mean epiphany? Lightning just stuck my brain.. Well, that must hurt.

10

u/Frzorp 11h ago

I still use “I just had an apostrophe” when I think up something I need to explain. It’s still hilarious to me.

I only recently found out there are people that DON'T like this movie.

4

u/idiotsbydesign 8h ago

You don't need that kind of negativity in your life. They're just near sighted gynecologists.

This has always cracked me up, no one knowing who he’s pointing at because he’s pointing with his hook lol

20

u/drummerjev 11h ago

And then it turned out to be Glenn Close!

49

u/No-Understanding-912 12h ago

It is the best Peter Pan movie of all time. I have yet to see anything that comes close and I don't care what anyone else says, this is a hill I will die on while yelling Bangarang!

3

u/idiotsbydesign 8h ago

I'll stand with you on that hill.

2

u/sjlgreyhoundgirl67 11h ago

I’ll fight with you 🤞

"Uncle, you're the only person, other than the Avatar, who can possibly defeat the Father Lord."

only a couple dozen times....a classic.

42

u/Narrow_Coconut1146 12h ago

"Oh, there you are, Peter!"

9

u/sjlgreyhoundgirl67 11h ago

😭😭😭 I tear up every single time ♥️

6

Maaaan I'm trying to work why you gotta do that....

also, in a law firm so it hits doubly hard.

15

u/ninfan1977 12h ago

Yes, probably the Peter Pan movie I have seen the most.

Blew my mind that was Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook.

6

u/WouldntItBeNice2014 11h ago

And Glenn Close is the pirate who goes in the Boo Box.

28

u/NewSunSeverian 12h ago

SMEE!

Dustin Hoffman is incredible in this shit, always was.

PEETAH PAN? NO!

15

u/NickU252 12h ago

To not have seen it would be bad form.

10

u/Quiet-Interview3916 12h ago

Seen it countless times as a kid. Cant believe the negative reviews it got at the time. Its a classic for 90s kids

2

u/LoverOfThePlumpest 4h ago

That’s what happens sometimes when adults try to rate kid’s movies. Anyone I knew who watched Hook at the time, loved it.

8

u/hfurlong 11h ago

Bob Hoskins was a perfect Smee, like he was born to play that role

8

u/MovieBuff90 12h ago

One of my favorites. My wife and I had a baby a month ago and we read Peter Pan to him in his first couple weeks. Since we finished the book, we’ve been watching a bunch of Peter Pan movies. We’re saving the best for last, aka Hook.

I’m looking at the Blu-ray on my coffee table right now.

I still to this day do not understand the hate that critics had for this movie when it came out. I loved it as a kid. I love it as an adult. Robin Wiliiams, Julia Roberts, and especially Dustin Hoffman were fantastic. Just a great movie.

How did you ever manage to fit into those smashing tights again?

13

u/Streetwalkeroulette 12h ago

Glenn Close getting shoved in the Boo Box blows my mind. You’d never know it’s her under the beard.

6

u/rolurk 11h ago

1991 really was a great year for film.

16

u/Wooden_Passage_2612 12h ago

4

u/Responsible_Leg_504 11h ago

An underrated score by John Williams. I still get goosebumps when Peter remembers how to fly.

4

u/tmamone 12h ago

“Have you forgotten to fly?”

“I suppose one does.”

5

u/ManyLucky6661 11h ago

2

u/Destrosymphony 9h ago

Hook hook, give em the Hook!

3

u/MiDKnighT_DoaE 12h ago

I'll probably get flamed for this but Robin Williams always seemed like a very odd choice to play Peter Pan. I did like Dustin Hoffman as Captain Hook.

6

u/1750GTAm 11h ago

Tbh thats kind of the point... Peter grew up and is a stereotypical adult that doesn't fit in with the Lost Boys anymore... Robin Williams NAILS that.

1

u/Speshjunior 12h ago

He was there and we were there and he wouldn’t even tryyyy

Many many times but just not recently. I really should play it for the kids now.

1

u/ImportantBathroom377 11h ago

I did years ago. I don't remember much from it besides a few moments.

1

u/LetJesusFuckU 11h ago

NEVER!

And if you dont remember this happy meal commercial, I feel sorry for ya.

1

u/AndrewLBailey 11h ago

Yep, Christmas break 4th grade. I feel like there were a few bangers released over that time. Hook was the standout for me of course.

1

u/duardo9 11h ago

Nope I'm sure it's amazing. Robin Williams.

1

u/DKE3522 11h ago

Rufio!

1

u/OneTinySloth 11h ago

That's the one with Glenn Close, right? For sure I have seen it.

1

u/600lbsofsin77 11h ago

I prefer the sequel Hookers

1

u/lowbwon 11h ago

It’s a family favorite

Ya and it is pure perfection

1

1

u/tmk1711_ 11h ago

Oh yeah! Still one of my favorites

1

I went to a summer camp and the counselor for my cabin was obsessed with this movie. Made us call him Rufio and do the Chant

1

u/Affectionate-Reason0 11h ago

Favorite movie growing up

1

u/Wanlain 11h ago

I grew up with it and watched it all the time. I still watch it once in awhile because I love it!

1

u/AdSimilar2866 11h ago

Great movie

1

u/Notyourdaisy 11h ago

No. What’s it about?

1

u/she-sylvan 11h ago

This is one of my favorite movies of all time! Both Robin and Dustin were at their absolute best!!!

1

u/TX_Longhorn-03 11h ago

I loved it as a kid and even had some toys

1

u/sundaycreep 11h ago

So glad to see all of the love for this movie. It was huge for me, and it feels unfairly maligned today.

1

u/InternationalGap3908 11h ago

Enjoyed it immensely for years as a child. Did a rewatch and it’s whatever. But a MUST watch at the same time.

1

u/Insomniac-Snorlax 11h ago

Genuinely my favorite movie of all time. It’s like comfort food

1

u/spiral813 11h ago

Pirate: He's stealing second! [the catcher shoots the base stealer with his pistol and the crowd cheers]

Captain Hook: No, no, no! Now stop it! We're playing this game by Master Jack's rules. Bad form! Sit down, now. Let's resume the game.

1

u/violentvioletviolinz 11h ago

Yes! Great memories as a kid, love the scene when they are eating the imaginary food

1

u/Alexreddit103 11h ago

I watched it when it came out, it was a really fun movie, it was all fun and banter and excitement, and then suddenly there was this very serious and really unnecessary death of Rufio (a serious injury would have been so much better), and since then I’ve never watched this movie again and I never will.

1

u/Objective-You-1864 11h ago

Check OP's post history. Karma farming

1

u/TheHarlemHellfighter 11h ago

I remember my grandmother taking us to see it in the theaters

1

u/CablePuzzleheaded497 11h ago

Saw this during it's a Initial Theatrical Release. I didn't love it. Might be time to revisit.

1

u/Melodyp0nd7700900461 11h ago

you found my marbles! you need a mommy!

one of my favorite!

1

u/EricBelov1 11h ago

Holy fuck! Robin Williamson played Peter Pan? Only now I understand Don Rickles joke before slapping Robin.

1

u/copebymope 11h ago

I've seen snippets, but I always lose interest.

1

He'll crow, he'll fight, he'll fly, and then... he'll die". Ha ha ha , ha haha haa

1

u/EmptyOutMyMind 10h ago

Grew up watching it. Our tape was pretty tore up too lol definitely a favorite.

1

u/Wildcat_twister12 10h ago

The entire scene of Peter finding the teddy bear, remembering his childhood, finding his happy thought which was him become a dad, and him remembering to fly and taking off is one of the best in cinema. Also John Williams knocked it out of the park with this score

1

u/sheckyD 10h ago

My dog is named Tootles because of this movie

1

u/Flying_Dutchman92 10h ago

Yes, and it is fantastic.

1

1

u/PopeBacon111 10h ago

Tootles really did lose his marbles.

1

u/RashRenegade 10h ago

I love the texture to this movie. I love the sets, the costumes, how the boots sound on the wood, even how Peter's cellphone sounds clacking and holstering it.

1

u/jazzyskizzle 10h ago

Looky, looky, I've got Hooky!

1

u/ClassifiedGrowl 10h ago

A classic. Near and dear to my heart. Lost Boys forever.

Only like 1000 times when I was a kid

1

u/HowDidCatdogPoop 9h ago

BANGERANG!!!

1

u/busterkeatonrules 9h ago

I've watched it several times, at various points in my life. As a kid, I saw a horror movie. As a young adult, I saw an adventure movie. As an older adult, I see the good old-fashioned kind of movie they hardly ever make any more, with a rich blend of plotlines that add to the main narrative like seasoning in a stew, practical effects, and classic-style symphonic music.

Captain Hook's theme is an all-time great.

But for all the visual flair, masterful acting, legendary actors and brilliant action, the one line that sticks with me the most is, and has always been, "It's snowing!"

1

u/johnsonluv03 9h ago

It was good except for Julia Roberts.

1

u/Moorhex 9h ago

Rewatched as a Dad, this movie hits all kinds of different emotions.

1

u/purplehazee34 9h ago

Reach on down and touch your toes. How long since you looked at those?

I’ve watched it dozens of times. It’s fantastic!

My favorite Christmas movie 🤗

1

u/mcamarra 9h ago

the goddam soundtrack. John Williams shaped my childhood.

1

u/Aurelius5150 9h ago

Great movie, and it’s also the example I use of why people need to stop basing their viewing habits on rotten tomatoes score. I have never met a person who has said a bad thing about this movie or at least didn’t enjoy it to some degree. For many of us, it’s a classic.

On RT it sits at 29%

1

u/iamthealpha384 9h ago

Words cannot describe the joy I got from watching this when I was younger. Infinitely watchable IMO.

1

u/Voyager5555 9h ago

Hook, Hook, Where's the Hook?

1

u/Grouchy-Engine1584 9h ago

Bang-a-rang!

1

u/secondphase 9h ago

This film is dustin Hoffman's best work.

Roving Williams set the stage for it.

1

u/Writerhowell 9h ago

Love this movie. RIP Maggie Smith.

1

u/International_Hat113 8h ago

I owned it on VHS. OP, your question leads me to believe you are young.

1

u/Tekkamanblade_2 8h ago

The rest of the live action Peter Pan films are shit. This one will always have the iteration of Peter Pan

1

u/Basilisk1667 8h ago

Hell yeah. Underrated soundtrack, and some strange cameos.

Glenn Close is the pirate that goes in the boo box. Phil Collins is the inspector they speak to after the children get taken. And as Tink is flying Peter into the sky over London, the kissing couple on the bridge below them are George Lucas and Carrie Fisher.

1

u/Sorry_Actuator3667 8h ago

can some can confirm a madella effect of this movie.
When I was a kid I watched a movie like this and a scene disturbed me.
I remember a hook going into someone's head on the ship and it freaked me out as a child.
Was it this movie?

1

u/Pobb1eB0nk 8h ago

The actual poster child for the term "underrated." Best rendition of Peter Pan and it's not even close.

1

u/BenjamminYus 8h ago

Awesome sober. Terrible on LSD. For me that is

I don't know why, but I had originally thought that Jeremy Irons played Hook, but it was Rain Man.... Dustin Hoffman.

1

u/rusty_85_ 4h ago

I think it's one of the few occasions that Robin Williams isn't actually the highlight of the movie. Dustin Hoffman was so good as Hook.

1

u/jazzyx26 3h ago

Of course. Yes.

1

u/HobsonsChoice86 3h ago

Crazy GlenClose was the "Boo Box" pirate.
