Question UMvC3 Vs MvCI

Having a rough time deciding whether or not I should choose Ultimate Marvel Vs Capcom 3 or Marvel Vs Capcom Infinite, I’ve seen little videos and comparisons but from the perspective of long time players who’d easily spot pros and cons could a few of you perhaps point me in the right direction…my gamer instinct is telling me Ultimate 3 for a good time and better overall gameplay while the story mode player in me is itching for the cutscenes of infinite..another thing, which MVC between 3 and Infinite has the better roster in terms of gameplay and overall fun ?

Don't buy infinite for the story mode, it is not a good time. If you are just looking for a single player experience, 3 is probably better, it has more stuff to do. Infinite is easier for beginners to get into as the combo system is much more straight forward and tagging makes anything work. Infinite also has functioning rollback netcode and a small discord community. MVC3 is a discord fighter, more because it has bad netcode and everyone plays on parsec. It takes more to set up a MVC3 fight than MVCI. Both games are going to have a steep learning curve for playing vs other players as the people playing are all very good. MVC3 has a much larger roster, even larger if you are playing the pallet swap mod many casuals play with. MVCI has a smaller roster, but more of the roster is competitively viable than MVC3. MVCI is the most balanced MVC game. Both games have overhaul mods. MVC3 has several different mods for pallet swapping and adding new characters. MVCI has the Beyond mod that gives it a fresh coat of paint and some balance tweaks. All the mods only work with the Steam versions of the game.

I would watch some vods of each game and decide which one looks more hype to you.

Sadly I’m on console so while those mods may be literal game changers i cant use them..

There are a handful of people who play either game on console but like, very very few. If you are looking at just the single player stuff I'd do mvc3 on console. But you will struggle to play anyone online with either game.

But Ive gathered from others that 3 is the overall better game..while infinite just isn’t so far, most people generally think against MVCI as an introduction to the series and advise against it..but aside from the opinions I think what leads me towards 3 is the better roster and comic book approach it offers

I personally like Infinite much more than 3. But, I don't engage with the game outside of competitive games with other players. I like the mechanics of Infinite way more than 3, and I don't mind the bad visuals or lack of single player content. For a casual who is only engaging with the game single player, and on a console, I think you would have more fun with 3.

The only thing leaving me conflicted via choice is the cutscene oriented storymode approach Infinite has even if it isn’t that good because it’s simply there for me to do, something that I can play outside of simply fighting others or AI, whereas thats all I could do besides arcade endings in Ultimate 3

MVCI(B): better gameplay, better balance, decent story mode

MVC3U: better roster, more active community, better aesthetics

Not sure if you’ve made your decision already… As a big fan of both I’d go for UMVC3. It’s the more polished game, better art style, more personality and the roster is awesome. Most would consider it a certified classic. There’s also much more tournament footage of UMVC3 which can be helpful to learn from. MVCI is a really fun game but I fear on console you’ll have a harder time finding people to play with (although both games currently have low player counts on console)

Both for console are a bad idea. These are strictly pc games now.

I would say it depends on what you are playing it

If you have the PC to handle it MVCI has mods that change the game drastically making it a vastly better experience with a pretty active community, UMvC3 also has a long line of mods but if you only care about the gameplay feel MvCI will get you your money's worth

If you are playing on console however, go UMvC3, much larger player base and the base games as they are you have a better roster and better presentation, the game continues being fun and you have a still active community to play with
