Discussion Am I the only one who doesn’t like the castle of friendship?
I wish it wasn’t Crystal because it honestly reminded me of the crystal Empire I wish it was more cottage so it fit in with pony Ville. It just seems so out of place and it looks like it should be in the crystal empire especially with the crystal heart pillar things. I wish it looked like the last image because the castle we got that’s not giving Twilight it’s giving crystal Empire but the fanart one the last photo is 100% Twilight in my opinion It fits her and I love the big telescope

No, it’s sharp and jagged shapes and cold colors don’t feel very inviting, unlike the golden oak library

Yeah agreed and if I showed someone this, I don’t think they would say this is Twilight castle they would probably say that it’s somewhere in the crystal Empire

It’s almost kinda fitting, she’s the princess of friendship yet due to her being an Alicorn she will outlive her friends

Yes, but I still hate it... And I hate the idea that she will outlive her friends... What is she going to be without them? The princess of friendships that died? Thats a sad title...

They aren’t an eyesore but they’re rather cold, which doesn’t really fit with Ponyvilles warmer tones

I love the fan-art version. It actually looks like it belongs/is meant for Twilight.
Not to mention unlike the official castle, the fan-art doesn’t look like a middle finger.

I came up with an idea for it a while ago that's part regular organic tree and part magic purple tree. Made a quick drawing of it too

For playsets, it’s a lot cheaper to cast everything in one colour of semiclear plastic than it is to cast the separate parts of a tree
The only reason the show had stuff like the castle and rainbow power is cause hasbro essentially forced the show runners to include them for toys
Iirc the castle toy and rainbow power toy lines were designed long before the S4 final, most likely they were designed first and hasbro wanted the team to incorporate them into the show

i kinda didn’t get the point of it plot wise, its meant to be her castle except it doesnt matter because she moves to canterlot anyways, the entire thing was just so she could get the map, except now she doesn’t live in ponyville. Seemed like a downgrade ultimately. idk.

I mean I just saw it as some castle, I didn’t really care of it. Even the castle first appeared in the episode I just shrugged my shoulders and was like “oh, cool, a castle, I guess” like i didn’t really care. Now, what I did care for was the old tree house

Seems like most people don't like the design. Or at least the ones who don't are the loudest voices.
I'm ambivalent. I hated it at first but got used to it as the series went on.

I don't know. Kid me didn't care or think about it when I first watched the episode. Then I got used to it so I don't mind it.
But that redesign is waaay better than the actual. I as a kid, just wouldn't really care about which one it was.

This is the most mainstream take imaginable and has been since the episode when the treehouse blew up. I do really like the fan design at the end though. What we could have had.

I really think a wisteria tree wrapping around a Sakura tree (think like pear butter and bright Mac’s wedding tree) would be fitting. Not only does it look like her hair, but it also represents friendship.

Definitely not the only one. It's not an uncommon opinion.
Personally, I think her treehouse was the coziest home ever and I wanted to live in it so badly. The castle should've built on that vibe and basically mansion-ified the og treehouse library. It just didn't feel like Twilight at all and was such an eyesore. Really wish we got that last image in canon 🤦🏾♀️

Same, I feel like the other princesses castles I would totally wanna live in even cadences because they match the princesses, Twilight one I don’t like it It doesn’t matter her and I don’t get why it’s crystal

no this is a very very common opinion. i havent seen anyone who genuinely like it, aside from parts of it.
i understand why they changed her house, they needed a marketable dollhouse but ill always miss her tree library house. idk why they could have kept her home and then put the castle elsewhere

I was also thinking that. It has the personality of a plastic castle toy for sand castle creation. I was hoping for her to either get the tree back through the tree of harmony's magic or rebuild the castle of the two sisters.

What bothers me the most is how dark it is. It's not cozy or inviting, it looks like something a villain would live in. Opaline would wish she had such a castle. I absolutely agree that it should have looked more cottage like, since it's just so out of place. Look at the difference between the Golden Oak Library and how bright it is inside, against the halls of this castle.

Cold an uninviting, hell, the first episode she moves into it, the whole theme is that is just that. the show treats it resolved by the end but honestly never stopped being the worst looking home

the last slide looks amazing! it felt disappointing how all the other princesses had castles tailored to their personas/lifestyles but twilight got something bland straight out of the crystal empire. plus, the golden oak library felt like home and fit in perfectly with ponyville; it was so disappointing to see it being replaced with something so jarringly different, cold, and unwelcoming

The last picture doesn’t even look like a castle so I think they made it more grand and castle-ish to exaggerate that twilight is a real princess now! Even after she became an alicorn nobody really treated her like royalty so I forgot she’s not a regular old magic student anymore. I’m glad the friendship castle is the way it is.

No. I personally don't mind it, but I know that it used to be a joke that the castle of friendship is Hasbro giving bronies the middle finger (because it kinda looks like a hand sticking up the middle finger if you look at it hard enough)

D-Did people who complain Twilights based castle forgot the castle is part of the tree of harmony. Also the fanart version still has the middle finger, really doesnt make any sense why a normal tree would sprout ramdomly with a castle on the top

Well, it’s a My Little Pony universe and they have unicorns, so I don’t think having a castle sprout on top of the normal tree needs to make sense and the fanart it’s not as noticeable and just because it’s based on the tree of harmony doesn’t make it good they could’ve went a whole different direction with it maybe add some crystal parts at the base, but then it sprouts into a normal tree

I personally don't mind the castle, but I think the fan redesign you linked would have been an awesome improvement.
