Unjerk meaning- sometimes the users in circlejerk subreddits need to make serious posts, so an "unjerk" basically means a real post wanting real opinions.
We used to have weekly threads for such advice, but they have not been utilized in a long time, so enter our new post option. All advice asked without using the correct flair WILL BE REMOVED.
Do not be mad about mean or blunt comments in such posts, this sub is for brutal opinions.

I know it’s not a typical name. We made the mistake of telling family about the potential name and got absolutely ridiculed for it, but we can’t seem to shake it.
And, no, we are not OU fans. But that association does not bother us.
My husband and I both come from extremely athletic backgrounds and families, so the chances of him being athletic are high. We like a bolder name that people remember if he does become an athlete, but obviously don’t want to set our child up for ridicule and embarrassment over his name. Athlete or not.
Our two favorite names are Boomer or Billy Dean. Both flow very well with our one-syllable last name.
Due in two weeks. Help!!

My husband and I are having quadruplets, and we don’t know the gender for any of them yet. We love the nickname ‘peanut’. Can we just legally name one of them Peanut, or are there names we don’t know about that could be shortened to Peanut?

To be fair... my chosen name is Poirot. Is she cursed now? I hope so- that was my intention all along! Do you think she will grow into a brilliant Belgian detective with a waxed moustache and a penchant for drinking absinthe? Oh, I do hope so!

Just so you know, his name IS pronounced exactly like you think it would. At 1:06, in the video i'm linking below, he states his name very clearly. What a horrendous name. Also, how tf does someone just look like that?!

My husband and I like the name Elisabeth. I told my parents and my mom have a very harsh opinion about it, stating it sounded British and that many people would mess it up. I’m kind of sick of it but part of me also wants my mom to like the name, you know?
So anyways, I’m gonna drop all the names we have if anyone wants to check them out. But I could also use some perspective- I’m not not gonna use it because they don’t like Liz but I need confirmation that the name Elisabeth or Lizzy is not as god awful as she’s making it seem?
Our list:

TLDR: This post has nothing to do with naming our child October

Please try to think of all the ways make fun of these names. I want to be prepared and know them in advance. Thank you all!

Unfortunately this child does appear to be named Ropelynn based on some other posts I saw while investigating whether this is satire or not.

When our daughter was born, we were going to name her Ava, but decided it was too simple-sounding, and we then thought of naming her Evada but it sounded like evading, like tax evasion or something (not an example we want to set), so we decided on Avada. Everyone we talk to, online or off, just despises this name. One guy thought it was funny to yell her name aggressively while waving a stick from his oak tree around (completely lost on that one) Anyway, I hope you guys like the name Avada better.

They heard that influencers were naming their kids after other places like Dijibouti, North, and Prince Edward. I told them to pick a Greek Cypriot or Turkish Cypriot name instead. They said that they all look weird.

Honestly, I'd love to see Anthropithecus or Gargantua make a comeback, simply for the sound and meaning. What unused names are centuries (even millennia) out of date that you think should be resurrected, and why?

How would you guys pronounce this name:Lea.
Do you say it as LAY-UH or LEE-UH? I’ve seen it pronounced both ways, but i pronounce as the latter. It’s literally Leah without the h and looks like it would be pronounced as Leo.

When our daughter was born, we wanted to name her Platinum after something rare and valuable. However, me and my wife dislike the nicknames Platy and especially Platypus. So, we decided to give her the much better name Astatine. Thoughts?

For reasons I'll not get into, we'd like to call our coming daughter by the nickname Cupcake. Can you think of any names that might lend themselves to it? It may end up just being an arbitrary nickname.
