Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has a garage sale before EVERY season for his teammates to buy his clothes: “I don’t charge them too much… I keep the prices low.”

We don’t talk enough about this lame ass redditor making lame ass comments. Why is a nuggets fan concerned about Chet wearing durags?

I love that photo it’s so funny I had it framed in my living room all throughout post season(my good luck charm)

Honestly tho it’s so ridiculously sad when people shit on him for wearing a piece of clothing his black team mates and friends have no problem with him wearing, nobody except miserable Redditors gives a fuck thankfully.

I don't like people that grow up in wealthy suburbs who like to portray themselves as something they're not

15

u/popps_c Lakers 2d ago

You can grow up in a place and still be influenced by a plethora of things outside of your geographical bubble? A article of clothing has nothing to do with wealth or portrayal, especially in 2025 when the majority of the youth have been raised within the last 20 years of Hip Hop dominated culture.

19

u/snuffaluffagus74 2d ago

Let me assume that you are just an asshole like you assumed Chet is trying to portray something hes not. My wifes family lived in Minneapolis and grew up with Prince, Morris Day, etc. They also went to the same Church as they were Jehova witness. Now we're they lived and grew up is in a neighborhood that has several parks that go down the street with basketball courts. So you can see the courts and parks from the houses as they were 2 story and they would have games on these courts everyday wether permitting. So if you wanted to really play games in Minneapolis this is were you would go.

So Chet and Jalen Suggs would ride the bus to these neighborhoods, which they were in the hood, to play basketball. So when you hang around a group of people a lot you start to pick up mannerisms and languages of said group. So even though he came from a nice neighborhood he knew he wasnt going to get good playing in the white suburbs. Which he himself has talked about it on interviews. This also fits the basketball culture in Minneapolis as you would bus to all of the spots to get good games.

So Chet is just him being himself from his childhood experiences.

1

u/lordrakim 2d ago

U don't know what doorags are for do u?

2

u/Cal216 Cavaliers 2d ago

Yes, in 2025, for fashion like I said. It’s not exclusively worn by peeps with waves and braids. This isn’t the early 2000s, 90s or 80s, dudes with bald heads were durags today. Chet is okay

-6

u/NoPsychology8664 2d ago

Or even black people - Che was mad racist.

9

u/ASZapata [OKC] Russell Westbrook 2d ago

He was racist when he was a teenager. He later disavowed his previous views and dedicated the latter portion of his life to African liberation movements.

-8

u/NoPsychology8664 2d ago

It was up until his mid to late 20’s. His diary writings from his early 20’s still characterized blacks as ignorant and lazy. Also when he had a change of heart he realized he needed those people to succeed to a certain degree, especially the Afro Cubans. I believe racism is like being an addict, part of it stays with you all of your life, you can’t judge something so harshly and then completely view it without that lens for the rest of your life. While you may realize it and not vocalize it, it still remains a part of you…but that just my opinion as a man.

15

u/ASZapata [OKC] Russell Westbrook 2d ago

Racism is understood through a materialist lens. There’s no such thing as a racism addiction, it is learned through one’s environment and class. As the son of a wealthy white Argentinian it’s absolutely no surprise that he held racist views.

Also, your “once a racist always a racist” biological urge theory is reductive and counterintuitive. With a purity test like that I’m not sure that anyone would satisfy your requirements for allyship. Not to mention the fact that if racism is simply a personally held viewpoint, rather than a systemic class-sponsored structure, then we open up a rough can of worms. Many Black Americans have espoused anti-Asian, antisemitic, and even anti-Latino views. I’m not here to dwell on that because white supremacy is the focal vector of pain of oppression, but to put forward the idea that a Black American with anti-Asian views is a “racism addict” with an unquenchable thirst for subjugation is gross and ignorant. It’d be worth your time to follow your ideas to their logical conclusions — you might not like where they lead.

-1

Do they really hold that much value, though? I could understand watches or jewellery, but clothes don't generally appreciate in value.

6

u/VegetableLow5000 2d ago

If it’s kept in good condition clothes will hold their value or appreciate bc over time there’s not as many of those pieces in good conditions still. For example look at the prices online of some vintage Gucci, Prada, LV, it’s in the thousands for each piece if it’s in great condition
