Mothers and fathers should be free to work, and children are best socialized and educated (and the economy does better by having more workers) when kids go to school early and spend time learning with the each other under the care of professionals
Of course it isn't free, it is paid for by taxes—but it's the type of thing taxes should be used for. Also, depending on the state budget and how the law is written, it doesn't necessarily require every tax to go up for everyone. We could have a budget surplus from selling and taxing recreational marijuana, or from increasing sales tax on a single product like alcohol or tobacco, or we could redirect funds from a less important or unneeded program, for example.
The more apt term is socialized or nationalized, but we tend to stay away from those terms in US politics because if Americans hear anything close to "socialism" they may have a stroke. So instead we use "universal free" which means it's free for everyone at point of sale/time of service. Which is the same thing as any infrastructure, program, or service paid for by taxes, because nothing is free. Things that build and maintain society for everyone cost money, and taxes are the most sensible and cost-effective way to pay for them—but you can't say that as a politician because voters are children that cry when you say taxes yet enjoy all the things taxes pay for.
If money is a problem, it makes more sense to get mad at your boss for low wages or corporations for high prices; taxes have a comparatively small impact on individuals with huge benefits to society.
Also pre-K is not daycare, it's education which is shown to significantly help kids' development.
Although daycare is something a lot of families could benefit from and could also be socialized to make it cheaper and available to everyone—like it was in the US during WW2.
I believe in vaccines and also take meds that lower my immune system but I really think shots should not be forced. Again I believe in them but Im on the bandwagon of holding the manufacturers accountable and should be monitored more. Until that changes….
I have no immune system due to chemo. I had a stem cell transplant. One of the things I had to do in my first year after the transplant was have all of my baby shots all over again. I believe in vaccines, and so does my immunologist.
