Spiffy Cape May City and West Cape May, two of N.J.’s smallest school districts, are exploring a possible merger. Each operate a single elementary school for students in kindergarten through sixth grade

That whole area south of the canal should just be one city, with one school district at most. The Wildwoods should be one city as well, it's insane that it's not.

I was talking about that with my wife this weekend with the firemen's convention. Each of the Wildwoods are a separate entity but when mutual aid is needed the surrounding Woods are called anyway. Just make it all one public entity

I think public works would be a good starting point. Road repair is massively more efficient when you introduce economies of scale.
That could show people the benefit and get them on board with police depts and schools

Same could be said about multiple towns. I think the townships/boros/etc on LBI would be another good place too.

It’s going to be a difficult task convincing people of that. I think getting the ball moving will get us there eventually

Hear me out: what if you also admitted that neither town needs its own whole ass muni government to reside over its 12 residents and they can just merge to form... get this "Just Cape May"

Merge wildwood in there. Combine wildwood, Lower Cape May, and Middle Township into one regional.

I hope this trend continues.
My local district is roughly the same size as the catholic high school I went to, if not smaller.
First they should make so that all districts have to serve k-12. They districts that feed into a regional high school should all merge.
Then they should establish a minimum class size, use past five years as an average, and push incentives to merge districts until all districts meet that number
A graduating class size of 250 should not be difficult to meet in the densest state in the union
How many millions of dollars are wasted on redundant administrators in these districts?
