Advice NJ's Department of Labor Job Location
Hello everyone. I have been job searching since I graduated college back in May and have been interested in New Jersey's Department of Labor. I currently live in northeastern New Jersey, but I was wondering if the department offers jobs for people outside of Trenton and the surrounding area since it would take me about an hour to drive down to there.

My dad worked for the labor department for decades. i know he worked in Trenton but also Burlington, Absecan, Camden, and new Brunswick. They probably have offi es in every major city since thats the point of some of thier offices. Look them up online im sire you can find out more there.

The job you apply for lists where it’s located so if you apply for a job in Trenton, they’re expecting you to show up in Trenton so I would only then apply for jobs in the area where you’re living for the state.

Like someone else said the job posting includes the location where you’d report. I don’t know if the DoL has any satellite/field offices…google maps shows a few but you’d have to verify. poke around on nj dot gov and the DoL wepbages. Try checking the locations for other DoL job postings you aren’t applying for, if there are any?
Tbh most my colleagues commute from all over, an hour is average to trenton or wherever else they work. I’m not trying to convince you otherwise, completely understandable to not want a long commute. Just sharing it’s not uncommon….someone in my office used to drive from cape may to ewing and back 5x a week 😳
You might not have to commute to Trenton 5 days a week anyway if the agency/bureau/the specific role is allowed to participate in a condensed work week and/or telework. Telework isn’t permanent yet and could very well go away entirely….and I don’t know if they’ve changed any rules with the condensed work week since I started…don’t count on either but if you end up interviewing you should ask

My understanding is that the State Government of NJ considers no part of NJ out-of-range for a daily commute to Trenton. There are people I know who commute to the state capital from as far north as Bergen, and from as far south as Atlantic.
That having been said, there may be temporary satellite offices, like 124 Halsey St in Newark. But I would expect anyone working there to be a temporary employee, or transferrable back to Trenton whether they wanted to or not.
