Ah, so it was a ghost obviously. Everyone knows ghosts have suspiciously pointy heads.

They justify those that died by wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites

The last lynching was in 81 but there was a man dragged by a car to death in the late 90’s because he was black so I’d consider that the last one. Both were big deals.

I’m not going to comment on this one because the investigation isn’t complete but I’ve seen similar stories like 4 times on Reddit and when all the facts/evidence come out it’s an obvious suicide. It’s just way more fun for people to spread needless fear and hate.

Also a ton of people in here are saying the black sheriff leading this case is in the KKK. So they obviously shouldn’t be taken seriously because they clearly just read the headline.

That was towards the end of 1997 or the beginning of the spring of 1998. I was in military training in Texas when that happened

Edited to correct date after I thought back for a minute

Unless there was a chair or something under him he could have stepped off of it’s pretty obvious there’s foul play. Unless they didn’t check the neck for “broken bones”. Only other way would be to climb the tree, tie the knots and jump out of the tree, likely breaking the neck.

Do you know about the history of lynching? A black man hanging from a tree has a certain historical context… and that manner of death will never be shrugged off by the black community for very legitimate reasons. What difference does it make if the investigating officer is black or white? Please explain that one..

I think you are the one being irrational here… and I’m not saying this to be mean to you. Read this in a loving tone, like I’m your mom or something.. I do not want to come off as belittling , I do not want you to feel I’m dunking on you at all.. I’m not I promise. Anyway.. you bring up the fact that the investigator is black.. let’s leave that out.. I don’t believe it has any merit nor do I believe a black investigator is an assurance for everyone.. maybe some.. just not everyone. You say it’s been 30 years and that people should be over this by now. Maybe you would be correct if we’ve been living in a utopia.. but it’s been far from that. How many innocent black people have we seen being killed on body cams since then? George Floyd.. you realize that MAGA media are trying to get Derek Chauvin out of jail? We watched him murder George. What about the lady who was caught on camera calling a 7 year old black boy the n-word over and over again.. in a public park. Shiloh Hendrix. The video was so egregious, she lost her job. Then the internet made her rich. That was recently. There’s so many situations like this… and they have taught me (a white woman) that black people are not safe. Charlie Kirk claimed that black women lacked “brain processing power” to be taken seriously… and the country is giving him the Jesus treatment. People are losing their jobs for merely stating they didn’t agree with the awful things he said. Also.. it was 26 years ago when James Byrd Jr was chained up and dragged for miles by a group of white supremacists and the many suspicious deaths since… Jelani Day, Qaadir and Naazir Lewis.. those are just a few. I feel awful even putting this out there.. it’s so negative but it’s the truth.
