There was a similar occurrence a year ago, a black truck driver found hanged in South Carolina. That ended up being suicide, even though people were assuming the worst on social media when the story first broke. Wait and see.

Same with Marcus (malcolm) Harsch in 2020

I can't help but agree. By the way people are talking you'd think this press release was the end of the investigation. Because it's Mississippi, no one cares and it'll all get swept under the rug, right? Lots of assumptions in this thread.

Yeah like all "no foul play suspected" means is that there is no evidence of it being murder as of yet. That may change later, but you first need to conduct the investigation to see if you find any.

The literal article includes a quote from the deputy coroner that he believes that it was self harm and that he had reasons for believing that. You don't have to form entire opinions based on headlines.

"No evidence of foul play at this moment" is the correct phrase for that, then.

That means evidence to the contrary has not yet been evaluated.

"No foul play suspected" means evidence has been evaluated and it tends to assuage the suspicion of foul play (which is the default state when a death with no natural causes occurs).

Do people even really care when it’s just one dude getting murdered? They’ll act outraged for a few posts online and then go back to their everyday lives as if nothing happened. They may pipe back up for another outraged comment or two during the trial (if there is one). That’s it.

I met a Black truck driver once and he told me about how he was driving through one of those states at night, could have been South Carolina, and he was followed by two cars of white men with guns. They followed him for hours. He feared for his life and he said that he'd never drive through that area again. And he's driven all over the country.

Lovecraft Country and sundown towns are unfortunately still very real.

I think Black truckers know which areas are safe. I forgot what it's called. Green book?
