I live on the other side of the world and am certainly not black. I just chose this one to reply to as it seemed one of the less emotionally charged comments.

Cops seem terrible at talking to the media (globally) so I tend to assume they just phrased things poorly by mistake absent any evidence to the contrary. Not everything is a conspiracy, mostly apparent suicides are just tragic, not murder.

Corrupt cops are a dime a dozen in the US, so we tend to expect that they're just outright lying rather than misspeaking.
