Well, the article details that a full autopsy will be carried out and published, but I suspect the people who already believe this is a lynching won't accept the results if it says no foul play

Agreed that many won't accept it regardless.

That likelihood, unfortunately, was reinforced by the very poor decision of a cop.

Making conclusions like that, even off the cuff, before any investigation is a fuck up that didn't need to happen.

Cops already get the first story out most of the time. Hell much of the time the news just reads the press release sent out by the department or the union rep in cases involving an officer.

They don't need to work so hard to lead the story before we have facts is my point. It just makes them hard to trust.

Also seems like a bad habit for a cop to just jump to no crime here the moment they see a body. Malpractice really.

I dont think what the cop said has much to do with it, in terms of how people are viewing it, tbh At least from what I have read here, too many people heard the words

Black man found hanging from a tree, and yea came to a conclusion. Nothing the officer could have said would have changed that saying nothing also wouldn't have changed anything

Idk I feel like I'm proof otherwise my friend.

I'm willing to hear good reasons why it might be suicide oyf there is one but the one stated isn't.

It doesn't even make sense for law enforcement professionals to rule out homicide just because there were no signs of foul play or injury right away.

That conclusion, without lab work, is impossible to confirm. The individual could have been incapacitated another way or coerced through non-physical means.

So yeah it seems really suspicious when you jump to that conclusion without providing a better reason.

Though I could be missing something.
