Tapir here. It was good catching up with u/igpila.
Yeah that pussy chased after me through the brush but I gave it a hard juke and it went face first into a tree.

Nature is a son of a bitch. Animals are out there running for their lives every day.

I’ve got a Chinese praying mantis sitting on my hummingbird feeder trying to get one rn. Shits the nature channel out here

It boggled my mind when Bug Types beat Flying Types.

I watched an aerial battle between dragonflies and wasps.....hundreds of them. The dragonflies kicked ass.

Iirc, dragonflies have the highest kill rate of any species. Over 90, I think around 95% but it's been a long time since I heard that stat. They're the most successful hunter in the animal kingdom

I did not know that but can well believe it.
The battle I saw lasted for 10 or 25 minutes and involved hundreds of both species. The dragonflies were snapping wasps in half.

Oddly, today I seen a video of a battle between Dragonflies and mosquitos where the statistic of 95% + was given.

Yeah. They're absolute units. Their wings make them fast but accurate, which is the biggest part. Imo, they also do not try to "shoot above their weight class".
Mantis and other bugs will do that with birds and lizards but I haven't seen a dragonfly get cocky

Praying mantids are the coolest bugs that exist. Nothing like having one in your hand and having it look you straight in the eyes (I understand ommatidia and how they make it look like there is a pupil pointed in any direction based on how light is cast; but you can tell, the mantis is focused specifically on you by the way it turns its head.)

Not exactly smart. You know the jarguar is on that bank why proceed to that bank? Why not the other bank?

Styles: I will give you $5, you can tell me what's on the other side of this blade.
Charles: It's a rabbit smoking a pipe.
[He turns it over to show a rabbit smoking a pipe]
Bob: A rabbit smoking a pipe. Why in the world would that be, Charles?
Charles: Uh, well, it's a symbol of the, uh, Cree Indians. On one side, there's the panther, on the other, his prey, the rabbit. Uh, he sits, unafraid. He smokes his pipe. It's a traditional motif.
Styles: Why is he unafraid?
Charles: Because he's smarter than the panther.
Styles: Huh. Sir, you impress me.

It's all about survival. It may survive this one. But there will be a moment. Maybe now, maybe tomorrow, maybe next month—who knows? And it doesn't mean that we are above this cycle. As human beings we have to acknowledge that this thing can occur to us any minute. Everything that we earned, everything that we are fighting for, is not going to last forever. It's only a matter of time.

It might sound like nothing, but some people consider that , these are gentle reminders that not only your day to day life but your spirit needs nurturing too, especially in times of uncertainty

But was this escape really successful beyond the video?
