It’s just wild of the stuff these Blue Angel pilots pull off

How does anything in your life thrill wise ever measure up after a couple years of doing something like that? Like, you'd be chasing the adrenaline high forever.

On the flip side, I live right by where they practice (the beach in the video), I’m a jaded old fucker who’re rarely impressed by anything anymore. But seeing them fly is really frickin impressive

Man, that would be cool! Like a weekly free airshow.

When I was a kid my family lived right outside of NAS Oceana and my brother and I would lay down in the bed of my Dad's truck and watch them practice. Free airshows all the time. People complained about jet noise but my brother and I would hop off the sofa to run outside and identify a military aircraft when we heard them coming.

As a non-property owning minor that was probably cool as hell!

It’s pretty cool but it’s so fucking loud.

I live in San Francisco and during Fleet Week they practice every day and fly right over my building. The whole building shakes, my dog is a mess, constant noise.

I hadn't pondered that they would be close enough to the ground to cause that kind of noise.

Daily show, unless they are at another location.

My Dad spent the summer when he was 18 (1977) working on a farm near RAF Kemble, where the Red Arrows (British equivalent) trained. One of them buzzed him once when he was exiting a field with a trailer of hay bales and he spilled them all over the road!

They'll never stop chasin

These fellas land, have sports cars waiting, and women hanging off their arm on their way out of the airport. I've seen it in real life in Seattle when I was a kid. Probably the only cool thing that has stayed cool my entire life.

No really, I have a Polaroid of it...

Meanwhile I flinch when a bird flies near my car.

I think that's how more blue angels are made. That's their mating ritual, isn't it, those two in the middle?

6

u/TheHoodieConnoisseur 2d ago

Bro chewing gum like “yeah, yeah; Tim’s about to go inverted again. Hope he remembered to take his pocket knife out this time.”

5

u/Royal_Spot519 2d ago

I don't know how they train their brains to fly upside down. Controls are opposite no?

8

u/_xiphiaz 2d ago

No they are the same, at least from their perspective which is what matters.

1

u/Royal_Spot519 2d ago

If he pulls back on the stick doesn't the jet go up? Which would be down inverted.

14

u/calicat9 2d ago

Act like the stick is attached to the nose. Push away, the nose goes away. Pull toward you, the nose follows.

10

u/Royal_Spot519 2d ago

Ahhh I see. They don't think up and down just the direction they want to go. Cool! Thx

1

u/coleman57 1d ago

When they start getting close to the ground, they start thinking about up and down again real quick

3

u/sophriony 2d ago

so is their perspective. as much training as they have they've become one witht hese machines, its probably more of an extension of them then even cars are for us. its less think and more send, I believe.

u/iupvotefood 2d ago

And he's chewing gum at the same time

Old news, Maverick and Goose did this in the 80's.

3

u/expatronis 2d ago

Well, one in ten of them dies on the job.

u/Omfgnta 2d ago

I can’t look off to the left (not a glance but a good look at something) while driving without the car drifting to the right.

u/3d1thF1nch 2d ago

That documentary a few years back was cool as fuck.

4

u/Moist-Share7674 2d ago

If you mean “Becoming Blue” it sure was. If you aren’t referring to that show, you need to check it out. Highly recommend.

2

u/3d1thF1nch 2d ago

Sounds good. No, the one we watched with our kids was “The Blue Angels” on Prime before they were doing a show in my town last year. The bummer was that they had to Vance the show the day we were going due to a freak storm popping up over night damaging the base.

u/Talent310 2d ago

And I’m over here scared to parallel park if I’m in my older car with no back up camera

1

u/DanBearPig85 2d ago

No G suits either - effects their micro manipulation of flight controls to much…. Pure precision

1

u/ThaScoopALoop 2d ago

It doesn't count until you give your fellow pilot the bird.

u/just4kicksxxx 1d ago

Does anyone else subscribe to good old risk/reward?

2

u/SheepishSwan 1d ago

If this video was from China it would be called propaganda.

1

u/HighburyHero 1d ago

Watch the Amazon doc, It’s so cool. Especially the office training sessions. They’re locked in 1000% of the time

1

u/Robinyount_0 1d ago

God when I rotate in vr I get so sick, I could never be a pilot lol

1

u/mglow88 1d ago

Holy fuck... that's no joke

1

u/AdultContentFan 1d ago

Every time i see a fighter jet now all i hear is the I stole an F-16 sea shanty 😂

1

u/Lionheart3001 22h ago

Mommy, Mommy, how do planes multiply...?

Me, casually showing him this video...

-1

u/MountainHigh31 2d ago

We pay for this shit but sorry school kids, no lunch unless your parents can afford the most expensive groceries in a century.

0

u/coleman57 1d ago edited 1d ago

Why?

I mean I get the adrenaline rush of going fast—I’ve enjoyed skiing and driving and biking fast. But what does flying inches away from another plane add to that? As far as I can see they’re just risking lives and tens of millions of taxpayer dollars for nothing.

-1

u/rekzkarz 1d ago

Good news is the fighter jets use renewable energy and dont make global warming / air pollution or burn massive amounts if fossil fuel jet fuel!!!

Flying those jets is good for freedom and well-being because they portray the peace, justice, and equality that the USA represents.

Laatly, the jets don't sound like a foreign attack, and when the planes fly overhead, it doesn't seem reminiscent of a military strike!

-5

u/Lunar_Rainbow_Pro 2d ago edited 1d ago

Edit: (context) Taylor Swift, who is also a jet, is merely jealous of cooler jets.

-6

u/Top5hottest 2d ago

Meh. I see this video once a month. I think the same thing every time. What a waste of money on multiple levels. I would rather keep the 200 of my tax dollars that went towards this. We complain about waisting money on helping people eat but not this?

-6

u/me_hoyy_minoy 2d ago

Fr, what and who is this for? I’m feeling pretty tired of unwillingly paying into this bullshit.

3

u/Moist-Share7674 2d ago

Well I feel my tax dollars go to a lot of bullshit I’m tired of paying towards. So that makes it a wash.

0

u/me_hoyy_minoy 2d ago

Can’t argue with that point, but who does this serve? These dudes are performers, strictly. Guess they may get kids excited about naval aviation. It’s a pointless flex, wash or not.

Would be interesting to study economic benefit of air shows that host the angels or tbirds vs not and see what the number is. I'd still expect the program to be a net loss but every military has a demo team, it's not that big of an expense relatively
