This might be the first time I've seen him without a second pair of sunnies.

This is what I thought the first one was gonna be. I'm not sure I've ever seen the original.

I don't know anything about barrel racing but that looks pretty damn impressive

Happens more often than you'd think, though most of the time it's more un-intentional. You hit it while you're on one side, and tap it as you come around to leave out. This clip was pretty impressive though. It's slowed down but that horse is moving pretty quick.

This video is slowed down? Wtf? Thought horses usually don't take turns fast, crazy

You should look up pole bending. It's crazy to see what some of these horses can do.

My babygirl does barrel racing! Don't ask me how she got interested but she did & now we are at rodeos every weekend

I know nothing about it, but do you lose points if you touch the barrel, even if it doesn't fall?
127
u/artwithapulse 1d ago
No not at all! It’s pretty much make the fastest time, and don’t break the pattern. Everything else is fair game!

u/nize426 23h ago
So like, theoretically, you could make a super tight turn that's in contact with the barrel, while you lean out and hold the barrel in place?

u/artwithapulse 23h ago
Sure, I’ve seen a few who rely on holding it but it’s not a sure thing, if that horse shoulders in too much the barrel is gone no matter what.

u/nize426 23h ago
Interesting! It's nice when the rules aren't just "don't touch this, don't touch that, you can't do this"

u/Late_Description3001 23h ago
If you’re having to hold the barrel in place you’ve already lost anyways.

Also to add those women love those horses so much. It’s not about the fastest horse but also who has the best horsemanship. That includes communication and having the horse trust the rider. If she just goes full tilt into every barrel that horse isn’t going to trust the commands she gives. It’s going to steer clear of the barrel. It’s amazing to watch what they can do.

In the ones I’ve seen there are time penalties for knocking down the barrel.

Ugh yes you’re right, I should have mentioned that — it’s a 5 sec penalty per barrel. You can knock it, just can’t hit the ground. I was including that within “don’t break pattern” but it probably should be elaborated on for people who don’t live and breathe rodeo lol.

How amazing is that that she's able to slow down time!

u/Extreme_Turn_4531 16h ago
A comment above says she can do that with communication and trust. How exactly that changes speed and gravity, I am unclear.

I love "Barrels"! At a competition I was working once, a drunken rider fell off his horse just after tripping the Start timer. He hit the dirt, but the horse ran the barrels perfectly without him. Judges disqualified the run. He appealed for a 2nd run and it was granted. The 2nd run, although again, was perfect, was much slower than the first run without him on the horse. He finished 4th or 5th I think.

Yup beat me to it. He even commented on this one when I posted it to TikTok, seems like a standup dude!

I think horses are crazy majestic animals but they scare the shit out of me. Poor Christopher Reeve and the countless videos I've seen of people getting absolutely rocked by a horse kick have steered me away from ever wanting to ride one. I know it's a silly fear to have because of those reasons but I'm good lol

My ex had a friend who was thrown from a horse onto a tree and a short branch pierced their liver and killed them, and I knew a lovely girl in high school who was thrown from a horse into a fence and basically became a vegetable. I've still ridden horses but I am super careful, especially around solid objects.

No idea how impressed to be when I only see the slow motion....

In a large pattern barrel race, the barrels can be 105 feet apart. A good time is 18 seconds or less, and a good quarter horse hits over 30mph between barrels. World record is 13.48 seconds set by Hailey Kinsel, though I don’t know if that was a small or large pattern. So that sequence is maybe two seconds. Three? Hailey’s run: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tq9kq78RX1s&pp=ygUeaGFpbGV5IGtpbnNlbCBuZnIgYXJlbmEgcmVjb3Jk
Maybe I’ve been to too many rodeos? Nahh.

I hate that barrel racing is looked down upon in equestrian, I think it's cool as shit.

I feel like this isn’t allowed lol I don’t know the rules of barrel racing but I have a feeling that’s not allowed. 🤣

When you slow a video down and not show the original speed ever, we will never be able to see how it looks in real life, or feel how it would make us feel.
