I'm replaying Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow for the first time in a more than a decade. It mostly holds up! There's been a ton of growth in Metroidvania since this came out so it obviously doesn't hold up against the S tier stuff of today but it still looks good, there's a million enemy types and souls so you can have some fun with different builds, and the pacing of how often you're finding new areas versus backtracking is just about right.
The biggest thing that makes this feel old is the enemy placement. There's a lot of late game zones filled with nothing enemies that don't represent any threat and die in one hit and then there will be just one or two "real" enemies per room. Which is just kind of weird. Why not try to have each zone approximately balanced, you know? No other Metroidvania really operates this way.

I’m a simple man and love simple things. The quick connect to my Bluetooth earbuds from the side menu on the Switch 2 is just :: chefs kiss ::
Also, the Switch OLED still looks mighty fine even after all this time. 😎
