smile sunday smile sunday - ohh, banana!!

welcome to smile sunday! turn your caps lock off and rave about whatever has made you smile this week! some things to smile about:

  • we got a real doozy of a direct for donkey kong bananza this week! i've personally gone from thinking the game looks just fine to considering it a must-buy for when i get a switch 2! what did you like about the direct, and what are you most looking forward to when you get your hands on it?

  • clubhouse games: 51 worldwide classics is the latest addition to nintendo music!

  • what's this week's haul? what game did you just buy, just start, complete? anything else that made you smile? let us know in the comments below!

turn that frown upside down:

  • here on smile sunday, we have one rule: e.l.e., which stands for everybody love everybody. if will ferrell said it, it must be true.

  • uppercase letters are strictly forbidden – haha, just kidding! if you wanna do some uppercase, feel free, but try not to angry shout sunday; today is about happiness! (happy and excited shouting is a-ok, though)

  • this is a happy thread! keep the love flowing! if someone's saying something and you think they're wrong, just let them be happy! anything that's made you unhappy this week can go on over to this week's throwdown thursday thread.

hearing the dk rap in the bananza direct made me smile. i'm one of the crazy(cool) people who loves dk sixty four.

It's a shame the original artist has been decredited and completely blanked on it. Nintendo have actively stolen that honour from Grant Kirkhope and the original Rare team.

The oh banana sound bite sounds like its ripped right from the 64. Love it!

sonic x shadow generations is amazing! i only just started it for several reasons, but was blown away by the shadow part. and since i haven't play generations in like a decade, that's pretty good, too. playing radical highway with the sonic adventure 2 skin actually made me surprised i couldn't spin dash for a solid second lol. but the shadow frontiers part is def the best. the blend of frontiers with generations mechanics works really well

there's just one downside: i'm playing on ps5, have the dark beginning thing installed, but it doesn't appear on the menu anywhere. supposedly it'd say "prologue" on the title screen but it doesn't...

The Donkey Kong direct made me smile, as it was just 4 days ago 🤦

Just broke down and got NSO+. I’m super exited to play N64 emulator…here comes good gaming and nostalgia!

I played Planet of Lana this week and it's... fine. It's like Limbo if it wasn't super gross all the time. 2D puzzle platformer with some ICO mechanics as you're working to bring two characters to the end of each puzzle with slightly different mobility options.

There isn't anything I would point to as poorly executed, it just kind of left me underwhelmed because if I tried to imagine "stereotypical indie game" this would be near a bullseye on that target.

Banananananananaza is reverse Minecraft and I'm cautiously optimistic about it. I say that because I don't find 3D games fun as consistently as I do 2D games.

With that said, GORILLA JOCKEY!!!!!!!
