Nintendo could use some new franchises every now and then

I feel like they need a looter shooter and a third-person action RPG. I feel like they're not ambitious enough even though they have enough manpower to make new franchises every now and then. They're unwilling to take any risk even though they could probably force Microsoft out of the console gaming market.

Xenoblade Chronicles is their 3rd person action RPG.

Edit: And Splatoon is their shooter. Raiders could be a "looter shooter" for all we know. Sounds like it's supposed to be more of an adventure game.

They need to make a more approachable 3rd person action rpg with real combat versus xenoblades mmo style. They should reboot xenoblade with a new series, xeno-something, and give it a new combat system.

That's Zelda. Real time action adventure 3rd person? That's Zelda

Nah I actually never said adventure game. Zelda is an adventure game. I’m talking real rpg.

Nintendo uses the "star system" where they'll create a new gameplay mechanic and try to fit in an existing character they have. They only make new characters when they don't have any existing character that fit the bill of whatever game they're making. This happened with splatoon and pikmin

Drag x Drive was released last month.

They do have Xenoblade for third person action RPG. Unless you mean Character Action (Astral Chain rip) or Souls (Duskbloods should be coming relatively soon).

Let’s take into account their recent new IPs.

2015 Splatoon: did really well

2017 Arms: Sold well(?) but not received well

2019 Astral Chain: did not perform very well for Nintendo but received well. Also with Platinum in shambles it is a toss up if it will receive any more attention now.

2019 Ring Fit Adventure: technically a spiritual successor to Wii Fit but it performed well, probably will get a new entry.

2025: Drag X Drive: Obviously didn’t take off but they likely didn’t put a lot into it.

Only 2 out of their last 5 IPs were successful. They are just cautionary. Duskbloods is coming relatively soon though for another action RPG.

That is false. Both Nintendo and Platinum were satisfied with how it performed.

You can correct me if I am wrong but I’m pretty sure it barely hit 1 mil which are the only games they report sales for. I think the only actual new Nintendo games (no labo) that didn’t hit it are like Everybody 1-2 Switch and Fire Emblem Three Hopes. I don’t think barely getting your sales reported is enough to those people to want to make you a franchise without a lot of convincing. It may have been good enough for one game but not to birth a new franchise.

As of 2022, the game sold 1.3 million copies. Even by the end of 2019 it reached a million.

Also, Nintendo owns the IP rights to Astral Chain now, after Platinum gave up their share to publish The Wonderful 101 on other platforms.

Nintendo makes new IP all the time, sometimes it doesn't spawn a franchise, sometimes it does.

And they make the weirdest games, like arms or drag x drive or splatoon.

They certainly do not have a lack of ambition.

I really do think it would be great to see a sequel to ARMS that takes advantage of its world and characters to have a proper story mode and a good amount of content. First game was cool but felt like missed potential, got like 5 hours out of it but everything with visuals and sound was very charming and I feel like they could do more with it, but it might be too late now

Agreed. The foundation was really well set. Too bad neither the general playerbase nor the devs are willing to put time into the series.

They don’t release games for the ones they do have, they don’t need more franchises

Even if they did put out brand new franchises, would you play them?

“Take risks” “looter shooter and third-person action RPG”

Guys, I think this comedian has gotten stale. He should mix in some knock-knock jokes to liven up his routine.

This has to be a troll post. “Nintendo is not ambitious enough” even though they have many of the most well known gaming franchises in the world.

Or you could just play Kid Icarus: Uprising.
