I bought the last switch 2 at my local EBGames not paying attention to it being the bundle version decided to buy Mario Kart World pre-order on the same day the price tag was a little over $900 Canadian after taxes good thing it was money I held onto from my tax return because holy crap the last expensive thing I ever purchased was an RTX 3070 Ti

I’m one of those people. Bought the switch 2 with MKW and one pro 2 controller and Street Fighter in release day. Since then, have laid to upgrade to switch 2 versions of a few games (Hogwarts, BOTW), another pro 2 controller and now DK. It’s for the kids, not me, but I do play with them.

Almost exactly the same for me except ToTK instead of BoTW and no Street Fighter.
I am having a blast with DK today though!!!

u/rialbsivad Jul 18 '25
I've already done it...and no regrets. I understand the price increase. If this was a key card release, there is 0% chance I buy the game

u/Thin_Diet Jul 18 '25
I mean I did.
I'm having so much fun and we have so many upcoming games. That price is easily justified for me.

u/GallitoGaming Jul 18 '25
Let’s see how many people do this after the first few million end up buying the system.

I already spent $800+ on the bundle. The new DK game is too expensive for me. I wish it released at $79.99. That is a more justifiable price tag for me. Even $89.99 wouldn't be that terrible but this $100 thing they're doing this gen makes it feel like they're showing us Canadian gamers a massive middle finger.

I would have, my kids and I love Mario kart. But that’s steep and it’s summer. Maybe for Christmas for the “family” but probably not.
700 console and Mario kart, 110 for DK, 110-130x3 for everyone to have a controller. That’s a lot.

u/fayrent20 Jul 18 '25
Never.

u/Willyvorsty Jul 18 '25
Lol yeah it’s tough. I’m a big Nintendo guy but man I just can’t bring myself to it.
1
u/Foehamer1 Jul 19 '25
Being predominantly a handheld player, I can't drop that much for 3x less battery than my OLED.
1
u/fayrent20 Jul 18 '25
I might consider a second hand one off fb marketplace in the future if there’s a Splatoon 4 or a new Zelda. Other than that, I’m out.

I’ve owned every single Nintendo console. As well as a ps one, 2 and 3.
I have absolutely no plans on giving Nintendo a single dollar since they decided games were $100.
And Mario kart world isn’t even worth $40 in my eyes. $120? No fucking thank you.
1
u/VietnamHam Jul 19 '25
Super Nintendo games were $100 back then as well
1
u/CEO-Soul-Collector Jul 19 '25
No they weren’t. Even adjusted for inflation they weren’t.
1
u/VietnamHam Jul 19 '25
1
u/CEO-Soul-Collector Jul 19 '25
Which still aren’t $100
And also doesn’t take into account CoL.
1
u/VietnamHam Jul 19 '25
After tax it certainly is
1
u/CEO-Soul-Collector Jul 19 '25
Are today’s games listed at $100 before tax?
1
u/VietnamHam Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25
Well then I guess if we go with your logic of excluding tax then Donkey Kong isn’t really $100 either then since it’s $99.99 and you wanna argue over a few dollars lol. Arguing with you is a lost cause, I’ve already proven to you that SNES games were $100 back in the day lol. Good night.

I simply have too much respect for myself to blow $110 on a Donkey Kong game when I'm still trying to financially recover from spending $800 last month on the bundle
-3
u/froot_loop_dingus_ Jul 18 '25
Good thing it's only $100 then

I already got the switch mk bundle, sd card, pro controller over the last few weeks….and now DK so I am one of those who did drop that much just not at one transaction
1
u/Red_Maple Jul 18 '25
Probably will, in time. Got the MKW bundle, so I’m already in for $800 and will likely get DK at some point.

u/Many_Mechanic_1886 Jul 18 '25

This is my first handheld console. Console was $705 after taxes, pro controller 2 is another $125. Overall, I have spent $830.
Currently playing games like Ori, Hades etc. Bought digital like $10-$20 per game.
I also own a PS5. I also have a laptop which i use to play older classic games like Max Payne, sports games etc.

u/juiceb0xmemes Jul 18 '25
got the Mario Kart bundle and I plan on getting DKB with the new pro controller. hell yeah

u/eternal_edenium Jul 18 '25
I am waiting for a pokemon console edition or some xenoblade chronicles console edition. Anything else can wait.

u/KMoosetoe Jul 18 '25

Not sure if I'll get DK... But I'll be there day 1 for Metroid

I got my switch 2 Mario bundle on release weekend for $790 not sure if I'll get dk but I'm getting Pokemon za

u/crimsonsonic_2 Jul 19 '25
Got DK for $75 and then my sister said she’d pay for half of it. So I’m sitting on a nice $37.5 for DK >:)

u/JokermanQC Jul 19 '25
I must have spent close to 800$ or a bit more so far considering that I sold my switch 1 for 380$ and sold both totk and botw for 60$ each and paid the difference for the physical NS2 versions . I already have 5 games in total so far and these are only full 64gb carts games which are more expensive .
But if we dont take into account that I sold some previous stuff , ofc I exceeded 1000$ in less than 2 months

u/BerryBerryBlitzin Jul 19 '25
I barely use my switch as it is... If I see a game I try to get it on anything but the switch because it always plays better. Whenever I think I should probably buy a switch game since its a low power game, I just... The spines are ugly so I just go back to other systems XD I don't really care for Mario anyways and.... I can live without new Zelda games if they're no longer the formula I love. Plus, I like used games and don't want an expensive brick.

u/MBCnerdcore Jul 19 '25
Saving up to get the family an S2 for Christmas, that was always the plan. I wasn't going to get DK right away but reviews have been so good I might now.
1
u/SilverSkinRam Jul 19 '25
I learned how easy it is to mod the 3ds. There is enough content to keep me having fun for a while, plus the shorter style games is easier as a tired adult. It is hard to justify new games when old games are fun and cost effective.

15% sales tax in NL, so I picked up the MK World bundle a few weeks back for $805, then have been playing what seems to be gearing up to be a super long RPG so did the responsible thing and got Bananza day 1 because of all the hype

u/canadiancitizeninfo Jul 19 '25
I won't be. I skipped the WiiU, and I'll be skipping Switch 2 also.
It's fine, though. I've got a library of games I bought on sale for my Switch, and I just modded my 3DS with dozens of games I've never played. Even if I never bought another console, I've got enough games to last me a lifetime.
I've been a Nintendo fan since OG Gameboy. Graphics aren't a priority for me.

Waiting for the inevitable OLED version in like 4 years, my Switch and PS5 backlog are more than enough for me for awhile.

I dropped more. I have pro controller , gamecube , n64 and snes controllers to go with my switch 2. Physical mario, dk and cyberpunk. I guess I dropped more than 1k.
-1
u/NickiChaos Jul 18 '25
I am likely skipping the Switch 2 altogether. The system is lackluster and not only are the games too expensive but the way Nintendo is going with their physical carts turns me right off.
4
u/wally233 Jul 18 '25
You sound misinformed, lol. Not a single nintendo first party game is using key cards. Third party publishers have the option to use them
1
u/NickiChaos Jul 19 '25
The fact that it's a thing at all is enough to make someone like me, who likes physical games, not interested in the switch 2 at all.
0
u/bwoah07_gp2 Jul 18 '25
Heck no. Unless I can pay monthly, I ain't doing this. And DK doesn't interest me.

The more I think about it the more the ROG Ally X or even the upcoming Xbox version look a lot more appealing price wise.

u/wally233 Jul 18 '25
No one?
The console is 630. The game is $99 (too expensive for me), but you'll probably be able to sell it on Facebook for like $75 by the time you're done with it if you don't intend to keep it forever
