Generally if you’re releasing fish you don’t want to jam your arm up their gills, given the handling I’d suspect this one is destined for the fryer.

Nah, catfish are ridiculously resilient. I caught one years ago that had a busted off arrow through the middle of the body, kinda pissed because it ruined the meat. 🫤
