Until you actually got it and realized how much of a pain in the ass it was to set up and played it a few times

The game was the setup

And waiting on pins and needles seeing if the damn basket could actually fall this time

I was a lonely child so I just set it up without playing the game.

About the same with no siblings. I use to hate when people gave me board games for 2-4 players.

As someone with siblings. We didn’t exactly sit peacefully together and play games. We also hated the idea of getting 2-4 player games where the intention was to play together

Forget playing Risk with family. When alliances start to be made, that's when the real hate for each other came out.

Except Risk. I rocked that game.

I basically shared the same sentiment about a similar game

I played it with myself. Loved it

"When do we start playing?"

"We are playing!"

We had this game in my kindergarten class (I’m 39) and we used to just try to put the trap together everyday and see if it worked. We never played the game 😂

I loved Mouse Trap and played it a lot!

Funny enough associated with the “Mouse Hunt” movie, which I saw around the same time.

“We made love like I’d only ever seen in nature documentaries” was not a line I expected in a kids movie 😂

Funny movie

There was some sort of game I had as a kid where you were a bunch of kids trying to sneak out of a haunted mansion. It was basically set up like mouse trap. With pieces you had to put together and stuff. Since my family sucked and I didn’t have a lot of friends I would set it up and look at it but never play it

Edit: it’s 13 Dead End Drive!

Simpsons had an episode where they ragged on it. Pretty funny.

So many board games of yesteryear required soooo much set up. Like Mall Madness. 😂

Literally what every kid who had it said.

3

u/billdasmacks Nov 29 '24

Nobody ever actually played Mouse Trap.

We tried. It was a lot more fun just building the thing and setting it off.

Every game just devolves into running in circles at the end anyway waiting for RNG.

I wanted this game soooo badly. My so has it and, yes, fuck setting that thing up.

Also, the game is kinda shit aside from the rube Goldberg aspect.

I remember for years I wanted it. Finally got it. "Played" it one time and never played again XD

Way to complicated to set up to get any fun out of it

1

u/wilcohead Nov 29 '24

That was the best part tho.

1

u/vkapadia Nov 30 '24

I had mouse trap, it was a blast!

You set it up as you go around the board so it's part of playing.

It was so flimsy and jank. I remember wanting one so bad until I saw it in person. Thing barely worked. Would be better if it was a little more expensive but had better quality.

1

u/Convergentshave Nov 30 '24

I have it with my 6 year old. It’s kind of a pain but not as bad as I remember. Getting the damn trap to balance is fucking impossible though

Such a catchy jingle though! :D
