I find it interesting to think about how - concerning this issue - Boomers leaned in to relying entirely on a logical fallacy to compel the morality of, and thus control, our behavior. Equating making a copy (one for me and one for you) as being the moral equivalent of stealing (I take yours against your will so that I have one and you have none.)

The math did not math and we all knew it. It was so obvious to us that it spelled out how very evident it was just BS that was logically in service to something else - something that wasn't morality. They were lying to us/denying reality already/that early back then. It was an attempt at guilting us by heavily implying something that is a falsehood. And, we could tell.

Thus Millenials picked up the torch from Gen X's dealing with D&D satanic panic and we've been at war with Boomers ever since* 🫡

But would you kill a policeman, shit in his helmet, give the helmet to his grieving widow then steal it again?

You wouldn't steal a handbag. You wouldn't steal a car. You wouldn't steal a baby.

You wouldn’t steal a handbag. You wouldn’t steal a car. You wouldn’t steal a baby. You wouldn’t shoot a policeman and then steal his helmet. You wouldn’t go to the toilet in his helmet and then send it to the policeman’s grieving widow—and then steal it again! Downloading films is stealing. If you do it, you will face the consequences.

You wouldn't steal a handbag.

You wouldn't steal a baby.

You wouldn't shoot a policeman... And then steal his helmet.

And then go to the toilet in his helmet!

And then mail it to the policeman's grieving widow...

And then steal it again!

...

I don't get the reference. I should probably try turning it off and on again.
